South Alabama lands huge commitment today
The USA Jaguars picked up commitment number 11 today. Offensive lineman, Garrett McGinn, 6' 6", 255 pounds of Tallahassee, FL committed today at his high school. He chose the Jaguars over FIU, East Carolina, Appy State, MTSU and others.

You did not read my post carefully. I wrote in it that McGinn was an offensive lineman. No error.

I'm pretty sure Tiguar was being sarcastic since we already have 7 DBs committed (7 of our 11 recruits thus far are DBs).

"He will likely play baseball for us too."

At 255 he will be ineffective at OL. At 255+, he will be ineffective at baseball.

but at 6'6" he can easily carry more weight. Put that young man in the gym with a good S&C coach and he'll be a beast on the line. I could see him being around 300 by his sophmore year.

Ya I agree, 255 is a good weight for a 6'6" senior in high school. He will have no problem putting on "good" weight when he gets to campus. My comment was that the OP mentioned that we would probably play baseball too. If he adds any weight at all (he will), then he will be ineffective at baseball. Even at first base, you cannot be 6'6" 300lbs.

I am a huge MLB fan, off of the top of my head there are a very small number of baseball players who have ever had successful careers playing overweight...mostly all pitchers too.

CC Sabathia, Jonathon Broxton, Bobby Jenks, Jeff Fulchino - all pitchers. Prince Fielder and Pablo Sandoval are overweight but they're both 5'11"...whatever difference that makes.

Adam Dunn played at 6'6" 285.

So it's possible the kid could pull it off.
I think the big selling point was the coaches encouraging him to try out.
But unless the kid has mad skills, I doubt he makes the team.

Calvi isn't running a charity over there at Stanky.
