Old Dominion will receive $1 million for playing a football game at Vanderbilt in 2014, according to documents ODU athletic director Wood Selig released today.
A contract ODU signed with Vanderbilt two weeks ago stipulates the Monarchs will receive a $900,000 guarantee and $100,000 for travel costs. It also guarantees 2,000 tickets be made available for purchase by ODU fans and that the university receives 300 complimentary tickets.
Selig generally provides copies of contracts to the media when requested, but declined to release the terms of the agreement with Vanderbilt when the game was announced.
Officials at Vanderbilt, a private school, asked that ODU keep terms confidential, Selig said. He released the contract in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from The Virginian-Pilot.
The $1 million is comparable or larger than payments other Football Bowl Subdivision teams are being paid for “guarantee” games, in which no return game is played.
Georgia State is receiving $700,000 from Alabama and $550,000 from West Virginia this season. Kansas State pays Massachusetts $750,000 this season and UMass receives $850,000 for playing at Penn State in 2014, $1 million from Notre Dame in 2015 and $1.25 million from Florida in 2016.

Show me the money!!
$600,000 profit before even counting gate receipts is pretty nice coin for a 5 year old program that was going to take its lumps in the caa.

Yep.... not bad for a program that Bob Molinaro so eloquently said in The Virginian-Pilot

This has to be one of my favorites......
"ODU should prepare for some pain".
What follows for ODU - starting with a trip to Delaware on Saturday - are eight consecutive games against CAA opposition. Judging from how they just looked at Foreman Field, the Monarchs are not yet ready for what the country's toughest FCS conference is about to deal out. And by not ready, I mean that it wouldn't shock me if the Monarchs failed to win another game this season.
Is it likely ODU won't win again between now and after they wrap up the season Nov. 12th at William and Mary? Maybe not. But an 0-8 finish is a lot more probable in CAA ...... LMAO
This is fantastic....typical Bob bashing, from a miserable Molinaro column where he never knows when enough is enough.
