the longhorn network screws ole miss
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football...twork-2013

at this point im starting to wonder how much longer schools are gonna put up with this BS or even ESPN willing to shell out 300 mill for whats obviously a failing network

but i find this little stat absolutely mind blowing.....

One 2012 report claimed that less than 13 percent of Austin TV viewers had access to LHN.

last years ole miss/texas was available to 98 million fans. this years game just 10 million......

but the texas tech fiasco in which tech threatened to cancel a game rather than be forced on the LHN takes the cake

as much as texas makes in tier 3, there are some things that are just not worth 15 million dollars. odds are whatever texas makes $ wise they lose on lost market branding, bad ooc matchups, & bad blood created with other schools

you do have to wonder how much schools not necessarily top tier, but 2nd tier would do home/homes with Texas. Wonder if you would see some that are doing home/home's with Texas put in as a condition that the game can not be televised on LHN.

MattSarz could provide some help here, but I recall that ESPN allows LHN games to be televised outside of the LHN footprint locally in the opposing team's market.

Much ado about nothing. Every time you sign a home and home you are at the mercy of the opposing team's media contract when you play on the road.

1- This is OLD news. It was announced months ago.

2- Out of state competitors that play on the LHN (usually KU or ISU) get it simulcast in their home markets. So less national exposure but the local fans get to see the game usually. IIRC they announced that most of MS and Memphis will get the game.

3- Home team owns the tv rights. Technically nothing they can do NOW, but any non-con foe scheduling Texas from the power leagues will probably insert anti-LHN clauses.

That's how I feel too. Tough tomatoes, Ole Miss.

thats a band aid on a gunshot wound. and i dont think ole miss's intentions when they made this series were the just break even on fan viewership. they wanted this to be a big game for them....but it wont

Maybe they can make up for it by handing out a huge ass kicking. That will be shown on sports center college football live and every other news and sports show.

However badly Ole Miss is getting screwed by the LHN, it's not half as bad as Texas is getting screwed by it.

In future it may be harder to schedule OOC of the other school knows their game will not be very accessible via TV

That doesn't disprove the statement in that your scenario doesn't screw Ole Miss, it screws Texas.

That said, I doubt Texas has any trouble scheduling OOC games.

RE: the longhorn network screws ole miss
odd years for Texas 4 home games with Big 12-
so 2013- 6 home games
2015- 6 home games
2017- 6 home games
2019- 5 home games so far with 2 open dates
2021- 4 home games so far with 2 open dates
2023- 4 home games so far with 2 open dates

kind of interesting that Texas only has 6 home dates in the next 3 times they have only 4 Big 12 home games, and then in 2 of the next 3 after that, the most they could have is 6 home dates. Really amazing in this day and age quite frankly.

I think that will probably be true, although if the LHN continues to experience problems finding an audience, high-profile opponents will be less willing to schedule a game that is both challenging from a competitive standpoint and difficult-to-watch from a TV-viewer's standpoint. Teams like Ole Miss and Rice may be willing to do it anyway.

The thing to remember is this.....ESPN isn't about to put Texas vs a ND/Ohio State/Alabama on the LHN, as it would not be in their financial best interest to do so.

you'd think next 4 years-
North Texas, Rice, UTEP, UCF

would be the LHN game quite frankly....

There are three Texas home games in 2013 on LHN -- New Mexico State, Ole Miss, and Kansas. LHN will probably get three home games a year at least until they get LHN on every major cable carrier in Texas, maybe even after that.

You know what's great? They just screwed Wyoming fans too.

Wyoming is playing at Texas State this fall. Texas State is in the Sun Belt. The Sun Belt's TV contract goes through ESPN. ESPN gets first choice as to where they are going park games. A couple of our games are on ESPN3, but they have optioned the game for the Longhorn Network.

RE: the longhorn network screws ole miss
one thing I forgot- with the Oklahoma game neutral site they only get 4 home games a year in conference...

so-
2014-17 they only will have 6 games in Austin each year.
2018- they have 4 conference plus USC in Austin, with only 1 game left to schedule- so 6 at most
2019-23 they in 3/5 years have a road game only scheduled OOC, so guaranteed only to have 6 games in Austin

So in the next 10 years, Texas is guaranteed to host only 6 home games in 8/10 years.

As to them having 3 LHN games a year, I don't see it. I don't see like next 4 years them putting BYU, Cal, Notre Dame, or Maryland on the LHN.
