Exclamation Is Johnny Manziel being kicked out a frat part news worthy?
I turn on ESPN this morning and rolling across the ticker is "Texas A&M's Manziel kicked out of Texas frat party". Seriously why does it matter? Have we stooped to the level that folks have to report EVERYTHING that kids do these days?

When the Heisman Trophy winner tries to go to a fraternity party at a rival school - and gets booted because he's a rival - it's news. So is every other incident where Johnny Football reminds folks that he's like every other stupid kid out there...

Like it or not, him winning the Heisman put him in the national spotlight. If he can't stand the heat, he'll be booted from the kitchen soon enough...

RE: Is Johnny Manziel being kicked out a frat part news worthy?
Of course it isn't newsworthy but this is the deadest time on the sports calendar so in the absence of real news, ESPN has shown that they are more than willing to manufacture it. I mean, they are showing NBA players playing in some whogivesaschitt summer league in Compton. They have nothing else to show except baseball and senior golf highlights.

So when Johnny Moron does or says something stupid or when is caught up in some other goofy controversy for the 50th time this summer, of course they are going to blow it out of proportion. That is what ESPN does.

I was kicked out of "Cheers" in Boston back in 1983. The media didn't care.

EPSN is NOT a news organization. 99.9% of what they broadcast doesn't qualify as "news."

Being the reigning Heisman winner and considering his recent string of PR faux pas, his getting kicked out of a frat party is as broadcast worthy as last nights baseball scores. I think ESPN gave the story the treatment it deserved.

The fact that we're talking about Johnny Kardashian validates BSPN's decision to keep talking about him.

If no one paid any attention, then BSPN would have already moved on to a different piece of fluff.

It does beg the question regarding what in the heck is this kid thinking? He's lucky he didn't get his brains beat out. What was his goals here? That was straight up stupid.

Honestly it's hard to say. The thing is that Johnny dumb*** is on an extended interview for his future potential employers. If he continues to act like a moron in public, then his stock will drop when draft time comes around.

But there's a lot of stuff reported that I wouldn't call news, but people are dumb enough to lap it up. Who really gives a royal fvck about the birth of another kid to the royal family? Does it matter if some famous actor acts like a moron in public and it gets reported? To me it isn't, but to plenty of other people it sadly is.

Get real to ESPN's agenda here. They have decided to anoint someone else for the Heisman this year and so they are trying to put enough battle damage on Manziel so that he doesn't receive as much consideration.

Now that said Manziel is being an idiot not to understand the spotlight problem his award and notoriety have placed him under.

ESPN has already started the Heisman push for 2013 and we haven't even gotten a month away from kickoff. The Heisman shouldn't even be discussed until the end of October. The #$%@ polls shouldn't even come out until a month after the season's opening either. But being reasonable about those two topics and putting the rules in place to allow time for natural competitors for both to emerge would be like taking the booze away from ESPN's power drunk persona. They are going to bar fight you over it.

If he wasn't a Heisman winner, I think this little incident would have gotten an article in The Battalion (A&M's Student Newspaper) and that's about it.

Obviously time heals many wounds (and it will be some time before he has the chance to move on to the NFL), and many people will be prone to dismiss youthful antics - but at the same time, I wonder how many future endorsement opportunities he could be pissing away right now.

I don't think Johnny is going to score very well on the Wonderlic test.

Not really newsworthy but better than many of E$PNs shows where they "analyze" or "break down" a game, or a sport, or whatever.

He's got to be one the worst Heisman Recipients ever. Both on and off the field.

RE: Is Johnny Manziel being kicked out a frat part news worthy?
This kid is not a serious NFL prospect, IMHO so he's probably not blowing any endorsement opps with his actions. Just about every kid who plays in that system looks like Aaron Rodgers from such luminaries as Sonny Combie to Kliff Kingsbury and every other Joe Schitt the Ragman system QB. This kid is athletic and a great improviser and he's definitely better than most of the other system QBs before him. However he's also like 5-11 with a below average arm (by NFL standards). He's not an NFL QB.

No, I could care less what the kid does. Just like I don't care what actors say about politics, or what any hot chick has to say, it's not what I'm interested in.
