Clearly, you don't understand how internet forums work. You quoted me & made a commment. I assumed it was meant for me. You seem to acknowledge that it was meant for me...but not really...but it was...but not really.

Clarification may actually be in order rather than you going into full-on internet meathead mode.

That isn't my experience with Philly fans either at home or away. There were two in my wedding party, so I obviously like some of the fans. As a group, they tend to be venomous, aggressive, and obnoxious.

RE: Fan Experiences
Good:
Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals were both polite and fun fans to be around. Of course when we'd cheer on the Redskins they'd boo and try to drown us out with cheers for their team and everything, but nothing bad. I remember one dbag in Cincy, but that's just one guy.

Ohio State basketball fans in Dayton. Some of the other teams too, but tons of Ohio State fans told us how awesome our fans were and how amazing it was to watch us throughout the game and how they loved seeing us support our team no matter what the score was.

Bad:
Anyone Philly, New York, or Boston. Obnoxious, lots of fights and cussing, pouring beer on people, etc. Rangers and Giants have always seemed the worst to me, although Philly is awful too. And the whole "at least they don't let other teams take over like the Redskins" is ridiculous. There are always going to be lots of road fans in DC, people from all over live there, especially when it's a team that has fans everywhere anyway. There's no excuse to act the way so many Philly, New York, and Boston fans do.

West Virginia. Big surprise there, but yeah at the FedEx Field game they were pretty ridiculous. It's amazing how proud they were and how much they wanted to rub it in that they were pounding an FCS team... Way to go guys.

Indianapolis Colts. This was one that surprised me, but when they played at FedEx Field a few years ago(I don't remember exactly what year) it seemed like every one of their fans was all making sure to tell every Redskins fan how much their team sucks and constantly point out how much any team that doesn't have Peyton Manning is s**t.

VCU. They're basically just like Philly fans. Maybe worse.

Never been to any game in Philly, but the people who work in the airport are the worst. I fly a lot. There is simply no other airport personnel in their league.

RE: Fan Experiences
Best:
Atlanta Falcons - I'm a 49ers fan and went to a game at the Georgia Dome a few years back. There was some fun banter between myself and some Falcons fans which I enjoy, but no one acted like an idiot.
Washington Redskins - I went to a few games at FedEx and didn't have any problems with Redskins fans. One guy even bought my buddy a beer even though he was wearing a Colts jersey.

Worst:
UVA - I was there the day the Cav Man fell off the horse. That was the most exciting part of the game. The rest of the time I think the fans were taking a nap.
VT - I didn't care either way about VT prior to the JMU game. Once the game was over, a number of VT fans flicked us off and acted like douches.
WVU - While a grad student, I went to almost every home game. Things like "What's the word? F*ck the Herd!" were commonly heard being chanted. An LSU fan also was beat up the day they played there.

RE: Fan Experiences
Best:
VT - One young guy was mad after we beat them, but before a JMU-er could even respond, an old VT gent stood up and said, "They beat us fair and square, get over it". Nobody else gave me problems, was actually invited to tailgate with a few of them and drink some awful wild turkey beer, but hey, I never turn down free beer. I didn't run into many current students, so that's probably the difference from others.
Nats - Everyone is nice and having a good time.

Worst -
WVU, more of the same of what everyone else has to say about them.
Redskins, 49ers fan here, wearing a 49ers jersey(and a JMU hat) and was just walking to my seats and chatting with a couple Redskins friends that I came with when guys got in my face just to yell "BOOOOOO! F*** YOU!". A few others sitting near me were contemplating throwing beer cans at another 49ers fan. Lots of threats made that game, luckily nobody took action.

RE: Fan Experiences
Youngstown State was a sh*thole when I went for the playoff game years ago. Absolutely nothing that looks nice in that town, whether we are talking buildings, views, or local talent. Fans were rude, beer vendors were rude (they try to make you buy your beer from a stand in the parking lot), and the cops informed us that the biggest building in the city is the jail. Ohio in general just sucks.

Philly fans are just abhorent people. I say this having many friends that are die-hard Phillies and Eagles fans. I love hanging out with them and they are some of my best friends, but they are straight up ******** when they are at games.

VT fans also strike a certain nerve with me. Maybe it's because I know as many VT fans that didn't even graduate from community college as I do ones that have degrees from VT. Maybe it's because the fans talk national championship every year when (if rankings were fair and just) they should be borderline top 25 at any point. Maybe it's because they STILL won't accept that we beat them fair and square on their home field.

That being said, I've enjoyed my encounters with App State and Montana fans throughout the years. Knowledgable fan base, fun to hang out with, competitive but not a-holes.

Also had a great time visiting friends at UGA and UK.

RE: Fan Experiences
As someone who is from NY, I can tell you there is a huge difference between the Yankees/Rangers fans and the Mets/Islanders fans. Many (not all) Yankees/Rangers fans tend to be lowest common denominator, and much more likely to be the obnoxious, superiority complex type. Most Mets/Islanders are passionate but realistic, and unless you are wearing a Roger Clemens, Chipper Jones, Dale Hunter, or Darcy Tucker jersey you are going to be just fine.

Baseball:
1) DC: I have been to about 7 Nationals games. I have found their fans to be friendly, although not very knowledgeable about the game (probably because the team is so new, you don't have the 3rd or 4th generation fan there). The service workers at Nationals Park are terrible though.
2) Cleveland: The friendliest fans I have met. Been there 3 times. Enjoy the sightlines from the seats as well.
3) Boston: Best atmosphere. Fenway is so much fun. Love how the team owns the surrounding streets and turns every home game into a street fair. Partial to Cask and Flagon. Been to about 20 games there.
4) NY - Yankee Stadium: New stadium unimpressive. Old stadium was much better. Crappy neighborhood. Been there twice for baseball and once for college football. No desire to go back.
5) NY - Citi Field: Nicest baseball stadium I have been to. Wish the team was better. Prices are very high. Not a lot to do in the area surrounding the stadium, but they do have a great parking lot tailgating scene. Been to about 30 games at Citi Field and over 300 at Shea.
6) Baltimore: Been there twice. I thought the stadium was very nice, sightlines are great. Once when I went, they were playing the Red Sox and the whole stadium was Sox fans. The other time they were playing the Mets, and the lady next time me moved because she "wasn't about to sit next to a Mets fan." Liked the Inner Harbor.
7) Veterans Stadium: I went twice when I was 12. It was really hot and there were about 2000 people there. Would like to go to Citizen's Bank, but no desire to be spit at.
8) I might get to go to Pittsburgh this week. I heard PNC park is beautiful!

College Football (I'm only including games I go to as a spectator):
1) JMU. Put it this way: I get one bye weekend off in the fall from coaching every year, and I pray that JMU has a home game that day. Can't wait for 9/14!
2) Michigan: I was a huge Michigan fan growing up. Got to go once for my 30th birthday. Unfortunately that was the year they went 3-9 with RichRod and it was 33 degrees and raining that day in a loss to Northwestern. Would love to go back for an earlier season game with better weather
3) Stony Brook: Been to about 8 games. Stadium is nice, will be really nice if they build the other side (sound familiar?), Crowd gets bigger each year.
4) Hofstra: Old stadium, nothing special. 12 games
5) Probably more, but I can't remember now

NFL
1) Giants/Jets Stadium: Both the new and old stadiums are nondescript. Plus they are in New Jersey which is a huge negative. I'm a decently tough guy, but both fanbases are out of control slobs: there are lots of fights, car fires in the parking lot, just a general atmosphere that leaves you with the feeling of being very unsafe.
2) Redskins: Been there 3 times. Very dedicated fanbase otherwise, stadium perfectly fine. Many fans nasty to opposing fans, but the seems to be NFL wide. Sucks that it is in Maryland though. Tough to get to from Virginia.

Hockey
1) Nassau Coliseum: about 90 games. You can make any joke you want about the Islanders, b/c they have been mostly bad for about 19 years. But when they are good, there is no place louder than the old barn. The most loyal, passionate, diehard fans I have ever seen. What other team would still draw to 75% capacity on a random Tuesday night after being bad for 20 years? This year's playoff games were louder than a rock concert. My ears hurt for days.

RE: Fan Experiences
Just a comment on the Skins experience... I find it to be overall, ok. A c+ or so. RFK was an A, even in a falling down stadium. The new stadium is just lacks character and has way too many fans of opposing team largely due to the overbuilt size.

As for a standard of fair fan behavior, I have no problem at all with fans of the other team being booed, heckled, etc. If you are going to walk into another teams house, you should expect that. I, personally, do not allow pets that are not paper trained in my house, so you will never see the fan of another team with me. So, if your definition of a bad experience is that you got heckled and booed when wearing the other teams colors(or any other team in your division), well... good. That is what a home crowd should do.

What is not acceptable is nasty language directed at you, throwing things at you, people getting in your personal space, etc. That is what separates good heckling from bad, good experience from bad. People as a whole seem to have lost the ability to craft an effective chirp, and have resorted to simple profanity. This is pathetic to me. I mean, if you can't think up some clever and creative heckles for a guy wearing a NE jersey, that is just sad. Even the Steelers guy I referred to as 'Rapistburger' for the whole game acknowledged afterward that it was a great heckle and still clean. The difference is, in Philly, I have had people throw stuff and poor a beer on me for simply wearing a jersey and not even being loud or anything. There is a simple line there. If you are going to be an asshat and be a pest as a visitor, you are going to run into trouble, but if you conduct yourself reasonably, you should expect some razzing but nothing more than that.

I witnessed Philly fans sitting in right field cheer and chant when Werth got hurt last year. I can't respect anyone that cheers someone that gets hurt, no matter how much you hate them.

RE: Fan Experiences
Best Experiences:

Tuscaloosa, Alabama - great fans, amazing tailgating, some of the nicest people you will encounter
Knoxville, Tennessee - amazing game day atmosphere and tailgating
Madison, Wisconsin - fans a little obnoxious but great game day experience. Bars galore.

Worst Experiences:

Auburn, Alabama - 2 bars in the entire town (right next to each other), had to say in a Dry Town, had our car towed (full of beer on ice) that we parked the night before the game in an area that we told was good to go. I will give their tailgaters credit they felt bad for us and supplied us with food and drink.
South Bend, Indiana - Stale game day atmosphere and a nightmare to get in and out of town.

RE: Fan Experiences
Good:
Oklahoma football fans (and I say this as a Nebraska fan)
Iowa football
U of Pitt football ( Pitt Stadium days)
Clemson football
St. Louis Cardinals baseball

Tough, but fair:
Yankees & NY Giants fans
Red Sox baseball

Not so good:
WVU football
"The U" football- though I'm guessing a lot of their arrogance has worn off by now.

A class by themselves....Philly

Can't remember if it was the late Glenn Brenner (former DC area sportcaster and ex Phillie) or someone he was interviewing, but a great line was delivered nonetheless.

When asked about the fan behavior in Philly, the response was "Face it....you'd be bitter too if you lived here"......Classic!

Here's the pic of the actual Santa Claus guy that was being booed back in the 60s. Look at the faces in the picture- these are not the "beautiful people". Anger & miserableness everywhere. [attachment=4812]

And my favorite. When Flyer fan Denis Veteri was sentenced for attacking a NY Ranger fan (who was also a former Marine & off duty police officer), he was given the following sentence:
11 and 1/2 to 23 months of house arrest which will be followed by five years of probation. As part of the sentence, Veteri will need to move from South Jersey to Philadelphia and can only leave his home for work and to attend drug and alcohol treatment classes. He'll also wear an ankle monitor.

Most thought the sentence was too light considering the savagery of the attack and Veteri's prior rap sheet. Ultimately though, the online comments settled down, agreeing that having to move to Philly was punishment enough.

I completely agree with that. I got plenty of the good heckling at the Dolphins stadium and some in Cincy. At VCU or even at FedEx Field or Verizon Center against the Eagles, Giants, Rangers you get lots of the cussing and threats and everything. I'm not a baseball fan, but I went to the O's and Red Sox game on Saturday with some friends and there were plenty of Red Sox fans cussing and just being complete dbags around us.
