I really need to get out West sometime... it appears to be wonderfully remote.
Driving from the home SLC to the place in PHX last weekend, I took the scenic route. Stops along the way include Bryce Canyon NP, Zion NP (my favorite), Vegas, Hoover Dam, and Grand Canyon NP. As a native Midwesterner, it's hard not to fall in love with the West. There is no better bargain than a National Parks pass.

12.

And man, Texas Tech looks lonely out there.
No wonder TT has very good attendance: Where else can people there go for entertainment?
There's the Buddy Holly Center (Buddy grew up in Lubbock), Joyland Amusement Park, Cactus Theater, Science Spectrum-Omni Theater, or several other options to occupy your time. You should travel once in a while. There's lots of stuff to do, if you open your eyes and look around...

Lubbock is called the "Hub City" and the metro area has 297K residents. IIRC, Lubbock is the 3rd largest city in the Big 12. Tech fans come from across the state on game days to help fill up Jones Stadium on Saturdays in the fall. Lubbock isn't for everyone but I am proud of my time there and hope to live there again someday.

I spent more time in Amarillo. But I've been to Lubbock a few times. I imagine it's changed a good bit since I was last there. One of these days I'll make the trip and find out...

Texas is quickly thinning out their talent pool. Big P5 will do ok but the increasing pressure is on the AAC/CUSA/SunBelt Texas schools.

One of the arguments that we saw during the move up process was the number people who go out of state to play FBS. The hope is that we can keep some of those athletes in state. We won't keep the 5star stud that was going to Start at a SEC or B1G school, but we might be able to keep someone that would be buried on the depth chart or going to an out of state G5 school.

Plus, San Marcos is a great place for college aged people in the state. The only thing holding us back from recruiting against UNT, Rice, or UTEP was the FCS tag attached to our name. That seems to have cleared up

Ohio has 8 which might be more or similar per capita

yes I was wondering that too. What is the breakdown for each state per person. Texas may have 12 teams but it has, what 25M people, so that is a little over 2M people per BCS team. Whereas Nebraska has only 1 team with a small population, so it has 1.8M per BCS team so it all works out about the same.

North Carolina & Louisiana looks like they have way too many teams for their population. New York has too few.

All 8 of Ohio's teams are within 150 mile radius of Columbus. Ohio is a densely populated state with a culture that supports athletics, the real problem is that only 1 of those teams gets the big dollars and the other 7 have to live off of scraps.

No other state comes close to a 7/1 G5 to P5 ratio.

Nah, the old Big 8 was a Northern league with every single member being in the Great Plains. Arkansas is a Southern school in the Ozarks. It's a much better fit in the SEC or SWC.

Is Virginia missing on that map?
Eyes are red from being outside so much, so could be my eyesight.
Good map by the way.

Looking at the B12 map, a Memphis/Cincinnati combo would be a nice way to fill in the gap some between WVU and the other schools.

I don't think that would even be a possibility until Memphis gets their football to a semi-acceptable level. Basketball and a large city were enough for the AAC (I guess the old Big East at the time) to overlook their struggles, but I don't think a conference dominated by Texas and OU will.

That being said, bringing two teams from that region of the country to act as a bridge for WVU isn't a bad idea. Had the Big 12 decided to add UC and Louisville, they'd be in a better shape than now (though they're stable as it is for the time being). I imagine they'd remake their old North/South divisions, except for TCU replacing A&M and UC/UL replacing Mizzou/Nebraska.

Man, West Virginia is the Hawaii of the Big XII. Not exactly distance wise, but it's certainly an island.

I still prefer Miami for the American Conference if it ever adds 2 more, or it needs a couple replacement schools in the event Cincy and UConn ever escape.

Miami U along with Army would be two salty additions in my opinion - good footprint and good schools.

I saw your map over on shaggybevo 10th. Some dude with the name TheVirginian posted it. He conveniently did not say that he got it from an Aggy fan. 03-lmfao

Enjoy knowing that Longhorn fans approve of the work gone into that map. 07-coffee3

Also...you gonna give us a Big Ten and ACC maps too right? Big 5?
