"Akeem was there on crutches & in a boot "
This is a spin-off of the discussion the "Football 101" thread was turning into, let that be for the clinic and discussion of it...

Anyways, HuskieFootballAddict posted the following in his thread:

Quote:Akeem was there on crutches & in a boot ...he's had surgery on his toe and didn't answer straight out when I asked if he would be playing in the Iowa game. He has not yet started rehabbing so my guess is no on the Iowa game. When I chatted with him later he said the toe has been a problem since last Nov. and he is more than ready to get it completely resolved & be done with it.

Toes tend to heal pretty quick, Im going to reserve complete loss of hope until we hear something official.

I kinda thought the opposite was true.

Lets just assume he is out for OOC play and anything else is a bonus.

Why did he wait so long to have the surgery?

I love Akeem, but this team did just fine with Leighton Settle playing the majority of the year.

Running backs don't really matter in this offense.

Turf toe tends to linger but arent breaks pretty straight forward quick healing things? Internet sources say generally 4-6 weeks. I guess looking back on the Iowa game last year, we didnt use RBs that much and still came within a point. Maybe there is still a very long shot to beat Iowa even without him.

He didn't from what I recall. Neither did Harris, I don't think. Bowers got a lot of carries as a result.

Maybe it healed wrong and they had to fix it.

I'm sure they hoped it would heal without surgery and then it didn't.

Coach Carey is naming a true freshman as the starting RB before he plays a single snap in camp? Doubt it.

toes heal quick? damn, my injured big toe has been injured since I was a sophomore at NIU. Of course, that started out as turf toe, and has evolved since.

I don't put our ability to beat Iowa in the hands of one player. Come on...Akeem is a good player but he's not the whole team.

Believe me...Our Huskies KNOW that the season must start with beating Iowa. They OWE Iowa for last year. And I don't think that Akeem playing or not is going to matter to them. They'll beat Iowa because they really want it.

I doubt he was named starter already too. I wouldn't doubt that if Huff is good they will let him play right away. It all depends on how healthy Akeem.

We went half the season last year with various RBs and did just fine. I don't think anybody needs to jump off a bridge over this.
