Of the FIFA ref who called the US game today and his wife.

Do not know who pissed in his cheeriors but he had something against the US team today. Not one but TWO blown PK calls and poor Torres was fouled at least a half dozen times and no call. Tossing the US coach and Johnson's yellow were completely wrong.

The ref sucked. He let Ciudad de Stoke foul with impunity. However, the Klinsi dismissal and the EJ yellow card were completely right. Klinsi even admitted that he went too far slamming the ball down.

EJ was 3 yards away on a free kick and the ball hit him. it is what it is.

Quick kick and Johnson was talking with official at the time. The ref walked off and drew a line on the pitch on every other free kick in the game to mark the 10 meter line. Kick was taken before the players were set.

Costa Rican ref. Pissed that they can't beat us so he tries other ways to do it.

Even though it's not a ceremonial kick (where the referee marks off 10 yards and uses the paint ... itself an american experiment), it's a pretty clear caution if the player moves in to block the ball. From my recollection, EJ should've got his card about a minute or two earlier when he did the same thing but nearly created a scoring opportunity when the referee should've stopped play and given the caution. Then, after a foul that came off of the first kick, the Honduran planted the ball in EJ's back.

IMHO, the two over-arching goals of a referee are (1) to keep the game fair, and (2) to prevent the players from enforcing the rules due to the ref's malfeasance. The rules will be enforced somehow, someway. Where the game gets ugly is when the referee isn't the one doing so.
