RE: I Pledge to NEVER Attend Another Liberty Bowl Game Unless...........
I don't think it is the UofM's best interest at all. And I think the ALB should be ashamed of themselves. The stadium sat with no improvements done untill the university agreed to foot the bill and back any spending the city did. The ALB never offered one dime ,meanwhile the tigers payed extreamly high rent on an outdated stadium. Now that the stadium has been improved the ALB is selling us out to cash in. People seem to forget all this. I also believe that the Knoxville nut hugger club has no place on this board telling us what is best for our university. The only orange that belongs in Memphis is in the mound.

Hale yes! I have only been to one Liberty Bowl, and I don't plan on freezing my butt off at another one unless my Tigers play. They are simply boring to me. Seems like we Memphis fans who foot the bill to everything here, Grizz included, get taken for granted, ignored, and insulted time and again, and I have no idea why. We are a very long-suffering, loyal, enthusiastic, nice fan base. I don't get it and I don't appreciate it.

Why dont everyone that accept this situation take a trip to another city with civic pride, then ask the people there(How great would they feel about pouring hard earned tax dollars into something that helped memphians?) . I hate Steve Earhart and you to Harold G. If i can find a way to get you all out of memphis ill spend my liberty bowl ticket money on it

To our condescending gee we know everything because we root for utknoxville troll...

Most Liberty Bowl games with the B12 and SEC would be the equivalent of (non RGIII) Baylor against Kentucky, or in better years for them, Mississippi State.

Which is less appealing than Mississippi State against the AAC champion.

Florida, Alabama, LSU...will rarely if ever come to Memphis- 1982 was a different era so don't even try that one. We will, and already do, occasionally get a mediocre tennessee knoxville team. And in the rare years over the next decade when they are better than mediocre (if ever), they will be elsewhere.

It is such a joy to hear utknoxville fans come to Memphis and the ***** the entire time about Memphis.

I am with you Gray Avenger. Earhart made a business decision and I do not judge that, but I made the decision to attend every Liberty Bowl game that included a member of the group Memphis belonged to. Our decisions conflict so I will no longer attend the Liberty Bowl game. It is just a matter of you scratch my back or I will not scratch yours.

If Earhart does not include the American in the deal with the SEC and the BigXII/10 I will not patronize Auto Zone anymore. I have seen so many auto supply stores around town, but have never gone into any but
Auto Zone. That will end unless the American has a deal with the AZ Liberty Bowl game where the American will have a representative in the game every 3 or 4 years. If that happens Auto Zone remains my choice. I usually try to support Memphis businesses. I will also attend every Liberty Bowl Game that includes a member of the American.

I also attended every preseason NFL game played in Memphis, but I never attended a game that Bud Adams scheduled in the Liberty Bowl when his Oilies were passing through on their way to Nashville.

I have went to every LB since I got back from Cali. If outside money in pouring in to our city, I do not care who plays in it.

Then none of us should buy tickets thereby depriving an out of town SEC or Big 12 fan the opportunity to come to Memphis and spend money.

Many people, if not the majority of Memphis fans, would actually be more inclined to go to the Liberty Bowl game if the SEC and BIG 12 went at it. This board obviously will not reflect it, but the actual Memphis fan base would agree.

I don't know if you meant to be incredibly smug, but your post comes across as that.

Essentially we're suppose to be quite peons and shut up. Those who disagree are not an "actual Memphis fan"? So as a member of The American Athletic Conference, we're not suppose to support it?

Glad to know this is our role ...

The Liberty Bowls job is to promote Memphis

Very poor and simply invalid examples. None of those entities are in competition with the University such as this. Regarding "The Liberty Bowls job is to promote Memphis." .... correct, and you promote Memphis by promoting the University of Memphis and thus by yielding credibility to its conference.

I think the Big 8+4-2-2+2 is being vastly overrated in all this as well.
Unless it is Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia and maybe ... maybe Oklahoma State, I simply don't see the Big 12 as really bringing that many fans here either. The Big 12 is a fraction of the travelling fanbases it retained prior to losing Nebraska, Mizzou and Texas A&M (Colorado is N/A).

SEC vs. AAC would have been best. The champion of the AAC would be thrilled to be here and usually bring as much/more than the Big 12. The #6 team from the Big 12? Not so much (and please see the above regarding their fan bases post realignemtn).

Texas tech/baylor/Iowa State/Kansas/Kansas State/TCU won't bring many fans to the LB. I could (would love to) be wrong on Kansas and Kansas State, but IF either of them was #6 in the Big 12, I just can't see their fanbases being excited about coming to the LB.

Oklahoma isn't going to be in a situation where they are going to be going to the LB, nor is Texas.

That leaves OK State IF they are having a bad year (for them) or West Virginia (IF they are having a bad year for them) as Big12/10 candidates that might bring a decent crowd to the LB.

The SEC is a shoo-in because it is such an easy trip for so many of the SEC schools to Memphis. The drive from Tech/Baylor/Iowa State would be a killer.

The LB has the right to pursue their best interests, but they should not expect - unless there is a tie-in to the B12 somehow - Tiger fans to support the LB as a form of civic duty.

The LB has been loyal and supportive of alignments that gave the Tigers an opportunity to play in the game. We never took advantage and really only came close one year that we could complain about.

The changing landscape of college football makes it clear that the Big 5 conference alignment is where the money is. The Big 5 have clearly said they want bowl affiliations to be vs Big 5 opponents. There may be some exceptions but there is a lot riding on this round of contracts, namely TV money.

I hate for the Tigers not to have the opportunity to play in the LB but I don't think a few of our fans sitting out will offset the advantages of the new alignment. It was a tough business decision but it was a business decision and not an attack on the Tigers.

Our mission is to get into the big 12. Problem solved.
