It's different only in that we were assured by many (not all, but many) Memphis fans that the Liberty would never, ever, turn its back on Memphis and its conference, despite overwhelming historical and present-day evidence that the Liberty cares about the SEC more than anything else.

In the end they wont be because Memphis will end up in the B12 once they are forced off 10 teams. 05-stirthepot

Yeah that's punishing the University of Memphis for the Liberty Bowl's decision, but oh well according to many of them their presence alone was supposed to "deliver" the Liberty Bowl to this league.

Come on man be realistic. Aresco isn't petty he may not be the best commish but he isnt drunk. No other city or school would go balls out to support that tourney than Memphis. The best facility and everything is right there and the fans will support it. Im sure UConn and cincy would be good hosts as well but he wont pull that tourney from Memphis. That would just be beyond idiotic. The liberty bowl situation was out of the schools control they don't "own" the bowl. Not sure punishing Memphis for being pissed is going to solve anything. Memphis bid and won the tourney fair and square.

That's a very realistic solution. Punish the city, Memphis fans boycott the sponsors of the bowl, and hurt the city and the bowl where it hurts, their wallets, and maybe next time they change their minds. I'm all ears for a better idea.

When things don't work out as they should, you're pretty entertaining to watch.

I'm offering a solution. Offer something in rebuttal that you think this league can do and I'll gladly consider it.

Problem is, you're NOT offering a solution to anything. Moving the basketball event out of Memphis will not change the fact that we do not have the Liberty tie-in. It won't hurt the bowl, the SEC, or the Big 12. It will only hurt us, as Memphis is clearly the best place for this tournament.

If the Big 12 ever invites Memphis, it will be when the Big 12 itself has become so decimated with defections that it will no longer be a "Big 12" worth joining.

Kind of like ECU, which for 20 years wanted a Big East invite, only to see that invite come when the Big East was no longer the "Big East" it dreamed of joining all those years.

There isn't much Aresco or anybody else can do about it.

I'm looking forward to spending more time with my family this holiday season. I will not watch any bowl game that involves a P5 team unless UC is playing them.

Of course but no one wants to hear THAT! 03-wink

Let's think about what you said. The AAC offers Tulsa, Memphis, UCF, and ECU.

The SEC offers Arkansas, Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU, Mississippi State, Alabama, and Tennessee.

Gee, that's a really tough one to figure out, eh? 07-coffee3

No shite. Freaking rocket scientists around here I tell ya.

That's debatable it's the best place. I believe Philly, Cincinnati, and Connecticut are very good places to have it. You could make arguments all are just as good if not better, so I'd go with them.

Easy...because you would be the first to BASH the AAC Champ playing a 12-1 MAC or 10-3 CUSA Champ vs say a 6-6 Georgia team from the SEC.

This is the most sensible post in the entire thread. It's depressing to me that more people can't see this 01-rivals for what it really is. Screw it all, enjoy the extra time with your family. Unless it's the "Access Bowl" I doubt I ever go to another bowl game to be honest. More often than not it's a waste of good money anyway.

Complete disaster for this league

SEC already had a spot with the Liberty so how is this any different?

It's different because we DON'T have a slot the Liberty (or any other mid-teir bowl for that matter).

Just skimming the thread I think that's right. On the opposite side --- never seen so many dumb### posts related to the remedy. Other than Aresco beating Slive's arse --- I'm not sure what he could have done. And I'm not certain he could do that.

+2.

Honestly, starting last year I just could not stomach watching football besides my Bearcats. This is coming from a guy who has been passionate about college football for over 25 years. Every time I turned on a game with teams from the power conferences, every time I turned it on ESPN College Football Live, Gameday, Sportcenter, ABC etc. it just made me angry about the whole situation.

My wife is an Ohio State alum. She is an avid fan of their sports teams. I personally cannot stand Ohio State because of their fans, Gordon Gee and the way they have systematically screwed UC over for the past 50 years but I have always sat with her to watch her alma mater and have attended a few games lives with her. I just could not do it last year. My blood would start boiling and I would end up finding an excuse to leave the room.

I am done with it all. I am honestly considering raking leaves in the fall or picking up a new skill.

I'm not surprised.

What's the use/point anymore. First, USF, UC, and UConn were relegated to minor league status, and now this.

Why care anymore.

It would basically be the game for a 6 or 7 win Cincinnati team that doesn't deserve any better. People dog the MAC but I would rather play that conference than what is left in C-USA outside of Southern Miss and Marshall. Toledo, Ohio, Kent State and Northern Illinois were actually better than a lot of power conference schools last season.

Detroit sucks as an option for a winter holiday. Who would want to go there to see us play Toledo or Kent St.?? Better off not having a bowl than that. Good grief
