Makes the most sense.

It's in their nature.

If Texas did leave the B12 by themselves, would you favor trying to keep the 9 members of the B12 together or migrate to another conference?

Would adding Cincy, USF and/ or UCF and thereby the recruiting areas of Florida & Ohio to the B12 be of interest and be enough to keep the B12 going or would Texas leaving make dissolving the conference inevitable.

I don't see how it could survive without an OU/Texas combo. I would be for the SEC absorbing Oklahoma, OSU, WVU and anyone else they wanted from the conference.

I think adding those three before Texas leaves would help to bolster, and stabilize, the Big12, long term. But if Texas left first, I'd agree with Dixie.

It will be the conference to watch. That's for sure.

I agree with Stoops on this. The SEC is a conference of haves and have not's. (As are most conferences) Yeah sure a Miss St or a Scar or even a Vandy will have a good season once in awhile. By and large it's the same schools at the top (Bama, LSU, Florida, dare I say UGA?) and then everyone else. It's the same in the Big XII, there are Oklahoma and Texas and then everyone else.

B12 is stuck between a rock and hard place. TX doesn't want to add any more teams because it won't move the meter on network tv $ but adding 2 or 3 teams from Florida & Ohio would have a huge impact on recruiting and visibility of the conference. UCF has the largest undergrad enrollment in the Southeastern US and USF is 5th.

Cincy has success on the gridiron and hoops and has a big named HC. But as you've stated without Texas even adding these 2-3 programs may not be enough for the conference to survive. Will be a very interesting watch.

Does Texas go 12 PAC or Independent?

I could see their ego taking them independent way before I see us in the Pac XII

Yep. Pretty much the same in all the conferences. I can remember Alabama being a .500 team not too many years ago, and look what has happened to Auburn and Tennessee. Who has taken their place? South Carolina and Georgia.

That being the case, does the ACC make overtures to Texas offering them a ND style deal; or if the AAC commissioner is thinking outside his box does he offer Texas membership in all sports but football provided that the Horns play 3-4 games with AAC opponents. Given that Tulsa, Tulane, SMU & Houston are reasonable distance from Austin; even a road game at one of those 4 venues would be a virtual home game for Texas.

Can't imagine there would be any dropoff in football attendance for Texas, AAC vs B12 opponents. Schedule 4 AAC teams plus ND, BYU & Army. Can't be that hard to find 5 more opponents who would be interested in making the trip to Texas purely for recruiting purposes.

I thnk the AAC has a lot to prove before they'd be considered for a deal like you describe. At this moment the Whorns would go independent before considering the AAC. Not even close. And I'm not dissing the AAC. I'm a UCF fan, so I'd love that kind of deal, but it just isn't happening.

That is a good point. I've thought about the indy factor. I hope you are right about the Pac 12.

The only way I see Texas going indy is to move East to the ACC. The SEC, PAC, and Big 10 won't let them affiliate that way. The precedent has been set in the ACC.

Oh I agree. I was just pointing out it was a possibility. I wonder how Texas would fare as the next Notre Dame.

Seeing how UT has a similiar network deal as ND, I'd think they could equally successful as ND, with maybe better on-field results, from a consistency perspective. Not a shot at ND. They did a good job last year, but I don't see a short term repeat. Anyways, I think UT could fare well as an independent.

I don't see Notre Dame ever being in a conference, but if they were to join one, it would be in conjunction with Texas.

I would still question whether they have the history and brand power. No shot at Texas btw.
