Take it from someone who grew up in california, Gonzaga would be the only school that anyone knows about coming from the Big Sky. It would help the other schools especially with the recruits and help elevate the level of play for other programs. How many people knew about a small school in the Pacific Northwest that painted their field blue before thier football program started making noise?
But people still thought that that school was coming to the big east as a full member. People will think gonzaga is a full member of the big east.
Those are the casual fans. There is nothing you can do about that.

Those were announcers and pundits as well. People only care what conference your team plays it's money sport in.

If the AAC wanted a basketball only to pair with Navy Football...Wichita State should be the target as the MVC has been decimated by the defection of Creighton to the BE...WSU would have to listen if the AAC came calling.
VCU seems content in the A-10.
The reason that VCU is so attractive to the Big East is not just because tehy have strong basketball but also because they maintain the conference's visibility in the greater DC market when Navy's sports other than football are playing in the Patriot League. Perfect complement to Navy football.
Wichita State offers strong basketball, which is nice and is important for the league, but they don't support an existing market, their own market is small, and they extend the conference further into Big XII territory where the conference is guaranteed to always have 2nd tier status.
The AAC has a shot at competing in the Northeast where there are still open market niches to be developed, but UConn and Temple need help. They can't do it by themselves. They need more rivalries within the region. VCU would be a big step in that direction.
WSU is easy driving distance from Tulsa, SMU, and Memphis...their metro market is 631,000...plus, I'm sure they would take the invite if offered.
UConn, Cincy, Memphis, Temple, Wichita State, Tulsa, UCF, Houston...sounds like damn good basketball to me.
You have a strange definition of "easy driving distance".
But whatever . . . The fact that they're within any kind of driving distance of those 3 schools is precisely the problem. That region is already dominated by the Big XII.
Sure it's good basketball . . . On a certain level. Just like CUSA was good basketball. Doesn't mean squat in the big picture.
In CUSA we had to try and get excited about playing UAB, Southern Miss, and UTEP...now we get to play UConn, Cincy, and Temple...it's a step up from CUSA hoops.

I hate to play the map nazi, but Spokane is a heckuva lot farther from Creighton than an hour. You know what is an hour away from Creighton? Denver. Denver is a long, long way from Spokane.

Agreed, been saying that for a while. The B1G made it work for a long time.
...or we could just add Gonzaga with SLU like we all know we should.
No way should we add Gonzaga, they are way to far west.
Nothing is too far west with more money.
What is it, one cross country flight a year? A flight essentially an hour longer than going to Creighton? Give me a break. It's Gonzaga, not the current Big East schools, that has to weigh the pros and cons as they'll have to up their travel and take their team farther away from their alumni in the West. We should be ready to accept at any moment they decide its not worth it to play Portland and Pacific in high school gyms anymore.
And it's not like their current travel is currently small (closest team is something liek 700 miles away anyways)
Just a point of fact but neither Pacific or Portland play in a high school gym. Some teams like St. Mary's do play in those kind of facilities but you happened to chose two schools who do not.

Either does Wichita State. :)
