ECU and BYU average over 40,000 per game. Not sure who the six over 30,000 are.
ECU 47,013
USF 44,130
Boise St 35,404
UCF 34,608
Fresno St. 30,915
SDSU 30,879
The figure for SDSU must be -- Must Be -- tickets sold and not literal fannies-in-the-seats. (I'm not judging; Tulane's "attendance" is calculated the same way).
But if the rankings are determined by tickets sold, there is no possible way that BYU averages less than 30,000. Their stadium holds 64,000 and they have had many, many games with SRO over the past 30 years.

I didnt count independents and it doesnt matter if its butts in seats or tickets sold. You get paid for tickets sold. The point is that better than 80% of the G5 is averaging less than 30k tickets sold per game.

SDSU has a game every year with a promotion called "Sky Show". It's a massive fireworks show, promoted constantly on the sponsoring radio station for weeks. Tickets include the football game and the Sky Show after the game. Reported attendance for that game last year was 50,586. They also counted their Poinsettia Bowl game vs. BYU (reported attendance 35,442) in their 2012 home attendance average. (From the official NCAA attendance release: "San Diego State played host to a bowl game on its home field so the attendance (35,442) was included in SDSU’s home attendance and in the bowl game total.")

Sky Show, plus a bowl vs. BYU, plus home games vs. Army and Air Force, and a 9-4 year for SDSU -- no surprise that with all of that going for them they got above the 30,000 mark.

To answer your other question: BYU's reported 2012 home football attendance average was 61,161.

Gotcha. Thanks for that information.

I believe it. BYU could probably average 60k a game for the next twenty years even if they went 7-5 every season.

Others who average over 30,000 with last year's attendance in parentheses:

UConn (34,600)
Army (32,500)
Navy (32,300)
Air Force (32,000)
Hawaii (30,000)

Also noteworthy are Cincinnati who dipped just under 30K last yea (29,200) but averaged 30,800 over the past 2 years and Houston, who slipped to 27,200 last year but averaged 31,700 each of the 2 previous seasons.

Again, I didn't count independents. But even with BYU and the service academies you still have most of the G5 well under 40k per game. So let's stop the posturing about empty stadiums and their effects on realignment candidates. If you're filling your greater than 40k seat stadium you should be P5.

That would indicate that a lot of people like bad football played by commuter schools. I don't see it happening. In fact, I think the bubble will burst on your own attendance when your fans realize that 20+ years of being the #1 bootlickers on the east coast still never got you into the Big East.

I'll refer yo to the point 90% of the G-5 averages LESS than 40k per game. Kudos on sneaking in the shot at urban schools just because they are urban schools. Still searching for any logical argument in your post.
