As the article states it has been kept relatively low key with the top 2 names being AD's from SIU and Appalachian St. Article states that the guy from SIU (Moccia) seems to be the pick.

NEW INFO: Says several other candidates now in mix and 3 of the 4 new names (not sure on 4th) are former Southern Miss Ath Department employees:

Roger David Wicker (believe it's John David, not Roger) who served back in the late 90's as Asst AD for Facilities and Event Management. He's at San Diego St now

Rick Villareal who served in early 90's as Director of Eagle Club/Fundraising. Currently AD at North Texas

Nick Floyd whose at ECU now but was here in late 80's (i believe) and early 90's (sure about that part). Don't see him leaving ECU with there upcoming move after this year

Not a bad choice. One of four named AD of the year this past academic year. External operations experience at Missouri, which Teague lacks the big school experience. Successful fundraising efforts at SIU, too. He clearly had a vision for their program going forward, which is something we lacked the last several years.

I'm hearing it is not Moccia from SIU. Hope I'm wrong bc I think he would be a good hire.

Just heard that he was offered, but turned the job down.

So I'm guessing that Teague is completely out of the running then? Too bad, as he would have been my top choice... I do like the fact that apparently ALL the candidates are fresh blood so we'll see if they can bring a fresh attitude (I don't think Cobb had any USM ties did he?)

Good luck on the hire...I think Nick Floyd would be an outstanding hire, Coach Holland was very high on Nick Floyd and the two worked very closely together here at ECU. Does not appear we was given much consideration for the job at ECU after Holland's retirement but I do not think it had anything to do with Nick Floyd not being able to do the job...I just think they wanted some fresh blood and an experienced AD. Floyd has been at ECU for a long time now and has done a very good job for us as our Associate AD and served as our interim AD after Hamrick left.

With all these other options, this guy certainly is not a "sexy" hire. The pro Hammond camp may riot. Seems to me we would have made a mediocre hire for president and AD if that's the case. Of course I sure hope I am proven wrong.

Except there is a very real possibility that we keep Hammond, too. He is basically sitting around waiting to talk to the new ad to see what his responsibilities would be if he decides to continue working for us. I'm told the pay and other benefits would be similar to what he made as ad (which wasn't much compared to similar schools).

Just curious.. why would this be a "mediocre" hire? I honestly don't know much (if anything about McGillis).

If it weren't Teague,

My 2nd choice would have been for Moccia, so I'm kinda disappointed he withdrew from consideration (SIU's done a solid bit of growing in the sports world, if not spectacular).

Wicker and Villeral... ehh, those don't do anything. (I'm sorry, but Eagle Club donations have never been great, so I don't see him with anything on his resume that says "yes! this is the guy!")

So I guess that bumps Floyd would be my 2nd choice of the non-Teague options, Cobb would be a good third on the list, and I wouldn't complain if it were either of these two.

Be the head man some place he would be a good fit for USM.

It doesn't particularly excite me because that university's programs don't really impress me.....bad attendance....don't know about their revenue.
