Yeah, that and the wind chill factor.
I think it does a disservice to our ancestors, who obviously tolerated far worse conditions than what we have.
Often with dirt floors and obviously no AC anywhere.
And sod walls, with bugs everywhere.

It was pretty hot today but it's cooler than it would've been July of last year. The monsoon conditions of the past few weeks aren't going to help with the humidity going forward though.

It's not the heat, it's the humidity.
It gets more humid in the south.
I've lived in NY, CT, IL, and TX. The worst humidity I've experienced was in Greensboro, NC. It was like an equatorial jungle.
Being from eastern NC myself, I can vouch for the NC humidity. It's unbearable sometimes.

I consider NC to be part of the South, not the NE. Do people NC really think they are in the north? :)
Anyway, we get humidity in the the neighborhood of 90 percent on top of triple digit heat. I don't know how it can be any worse than that. I lived in AZ and experienced dry heat...which is also no picnic when it's 120 outside, but not as bad as high humidity.

Go to Charleston, SC or the Gulf States in August and then tell us about how bad the humidity is there.

I've been there. I have family in Hueytown AL and visit Asheville on a regular basis - in the summer. What are we comparing it to?

Fayetteville NC. My brother used to live there, they call it the sand hills or something like that, it's been a while. When that sun comes straight on down, heats up the sand with the "air" temp of around 98 or so, that place feels like standing in an oven. And I've worked in front of 600 deg pizza ovens. Like hell on earth at times down there.
Here, Central VA, it's a sultry 97 or so with T-storms AGAIN. We can't get this damn swim meet in to save our lives...

NC is in Dixie and far from the Mason Dixon Line. I was just responding to the post before that mentioned Greensboro. I can't imagine 120, even without humidity. How those folks live in Phoenix I have no idea.

I'll take the rain this summer over any heat. Love it.

100 degrees with 90% humidity = sauna
120 Arizona heat low humidity = oven
neither are particularly pleasant.

I was out there for seven years. After about a month of the summer heat, it gets inside you and you never cool off. It's like your core has absorbed it like a battery. The AC will blow on you cooling off your skin, but your insides stay hot.
I prefer humid heat but many many people prefer the dry heat.

I run in the mornings, and this time of year, I have to take a tepid/cold shower so I'll stop sweating in time to get dressed for work.

RE: LOL at the Media
they were bragging here in st. louis how last week we never got over 86 degrees... "we're having a mild summer". This week, it's been 92-97 (high is supposed to be 97 on Friday) with a heat index recorded in certain areas from 102-107, and they're like... "We're melting!'.
It's called SUMMER!!! Wusses!!! :) (Of course, this is coming from a MIssissippi boy... so I'm not sure what they're complaining about :) )
