New QB transfer?
Found this on the WMU board. I remember reading on here that this was possible in the spring. Looks like Anthony Maddie, who played at Aurora Christian might be headed to NIU.

My opinion: PJ is turning out to be an *******. I am sure that will serve him well.

RE: New QB transfer?
It is believed Maddie is headed to Northern Illinois University, though the Plainfield, Ill. native was not released by WMU. He would likely have to sit out a season or join as a walk-on.

"I didn't release him," Fleck said. "...I'm not going to release him to an in-conference rival and with him knowing our entire system as a quarterback and say, 'Here you go. Here's your release.'"

There's no particular reason for him to release the guy, I don't see what the issue is.

RE: New QB transfer?
For the record, I doubt any coach would release him to NIU in the same situation.

Doesn't make it any less fantastic though. I like this kid already. It's a little weird he is transferring when he would be backing up a Senior.

RE: New QB transfer?
ha this is great! Maddie is a stud, i was really hoping we would get him a few years ago. Hes a perfect fit for our offense and Im sure the 3 aurora christian guys we got this year were in his ear recruiting him.

How does it work though. Cant Fleck. like he said, not release him to NIU and only give him the options to goto teams that they dont play the next 4 years?

Pretty sure we did that we Devon Butler last year which is why he didnt join Tuke at Toledo

He has to pay his own way for one year.

http://www.ncaa.org/blog/2012/01/transfer-101/

Quote:If permission to contact a school is denied, the other school may not encourage the transfer. But nothing prevents the student-athlete from enrolling in the school on their own. Once there, however, he or she may not receive an athletic scholarship until after an academic year has elapsed.

So pretty much he pays his own way this year, and is eligible to play (and get a scholarship) in 2014.

That's awesome... that's like the biggest FU you could give. Not only do i want to give up my back up status , i'd also rather pay for a year of college somewhere else as well hahah!

At least it makes the QB competition for next year more interesting.

Is it for sure that he is transferring or just speculation at this point?

I think this

Quote:"I didn't release him," Fleck said. "...I'm not going to release him to an in-conference rival and with him knowing our entire system as a quarterback and say, 'Here you go. Here's your release.'"

Makes it pretty clear he is.

I'm pretty impressed by his highlight tape. He seems like he will fit well in the Huskies system. I look forward to seeing what he brings to the table.

I forget who it was, but somebody way back around signing day made the comment regarding the 3 Aurora Christian guys we had coming in, wondering if they could convince Maddie to join them.

Well, low and behold.

Look at the route Chad Beebe runs at 9:40.

RE: New QB transfer?
I'm sure it's not just his like/dislike for PJ but as of right now they do have a very highly rated QB coming in who I would bet is going to get the reins right away. Also the recruit coming in is rated as a pro type QB not as an all purpose threat. Maybe PJ's going to go more of the pro style offense and Maddie saw the handwriting on the wall.
