Seriously though, I'm not surprised with the assumptions most of our conference brethren have of what record UTSA will end up with. Anyone that truly watched this team last season & in the spring knows that there are 4 games that can be counted as loses, 3 games that we should win, and 5 games that could go either way and be settled by 7 pts or less. Last year you went 8-4. You beat a bunch of 1AA teams, NMSU that went 1-11 and Idaho team that went 1-11. Maybe you guys will blow the place up. What do I know? But I've been watching football since the mid 1970's and from my experience you guys won't do so well. Maybe I'm wrong. We will see, but from what I've seen in the past, if you guys go .500 or better it will be a miracle. You won't be playing a bunch of 1AA teams with no depth. This year will be much more difficult. Throw in a couple of money games and you will soon find out what I am talking about.

This was a terrible thread idea. I know you're a fellow runner Mac, but it's obvious you never posted in the UTSA Spurs forum. I posted there before we had a football team and every thread was assaulted by trolls that made fun of UTSA. It was the type of place you needed a tough skin to lurk, let alone post in. To reiterate; bad thread idea.

I never cared for that UTSA forum in Spurstalk. So yeah, you're right that I've never posted on there.

There's a reason made an account on there and it was essentially that, the fact that there were trolls on there that constantly trolled any UTSA thread made. I'm looking to have meaningful and intelligent conversations with UTSA fans and that wasn't going to happen there so why bother registering for that site.

Also, my fandom with UTSA started in the Fall 2010 semester since my affiliation with the university started that fall (it was my first semester of grad school there) and by then there were already a few existing UTSA-themed sites made by UTSA fans for UTSA fans so I cared less about Spurstalk (especially since the smack talk on there got in the way of actual productive conversations happening there).

Anyway, my fandom with UTSA is not what this thread is about. It's a general thread as to how smack talk should not be instigated on this C-USA forum.

Only the UTSA tickets are free. You still have to pay for the fried chicken.

We're well aware of whom we played last year...lol. Going 8-4 against the teams we faced last year is already a miracle considering it was our 2nd year of having a team, our team was mostly freshmen and sophomores, and we were technically still 1-AA ourselves. In fact, aside from 80% of our roster being freshmen and sophomores, we only had about 65 scholarship players last year (1-AA schools are allotted 62), while the FBS schools we played had 85 scholarship players.

So regardless of how you look at it, we were at a disadvantage in every respect against everyone we faced aside from Texas A&M-Commerce and NW Oklahoma St, and yet still managed to pull 8-4. I challenge you to find anyone who faced a tougher schedule in just their 2nd year of having a program. In fact, we even faced three teams who were in the top 25 at some point of the season (La Tech, Utah State, and San Jose State). There isn't another football program in the country who can say that about their 2nd-year schedule. Compared to other FBS schools, of course we had a weak schedule. We're technically still not FBS yet though, and were only in our 2nd year, so some perspective is in order here.

Btw, I'm predicting a modest 5-7 this year because I (and most other 'Runner fans) know full well what we're up against this season. We've come a long way in a short time though, and we'll only keep getting better.
