1. UTEP was going to slide to the MWC side in the Merger/Alliance.
2. UTEP turned down 'feeler' from MWC and chose to stay with a CUSA that had Houston and SMU. Our spot eventually went to SJSU.
Also, BYU and the WAC really wanted UTEP to be a vital part of 'The Project' and UTEP passed on that as well.
Loyalty pays dividends, right?
So what has changed now for UTEP to be channeling their inner ECU and begging to join another conference? I remember many posts from UTEP posters where they condemned ECU's strategy to leave, but now it looks like UTEP is doing it.
I don't remember any post from UTEP fans condemning ecu for begging the big east (I might be wrong though, but I don't think UTEP fans really cared, it was ucf fans who gave you guys crap). I do remember UTEP fans giving some ecu fans a hard time for all the constant complaining about travel. I remember UTEP fans being upset that the ecu AD wanting so many east coast teams only to have them leave. I remember (myself included), that when the rumor was that exit fees were over 6 million and big east fans claiming a 10 million per year payday, speaking about how financially it would was a dumb move for teams to leave.
UTEP has never publicly stated we want to move, on the contrary, our AD and president have constantly praised Cusa and claimed that this is our conference... The whole UTEP to the MWC rumor was leaked by utah state admin, not UTEP. According to USU we were announcing the move right after the New Mexico bowl, but UTEP declined the invitation so USU convinced the MWC to add SJSU. At the time, the MWC had just lost BYU and Utah and were at 10 teams.
I understand every schools motives for doing what they did/are doing; so I have never cared when schools left or joined a new confernce. And in all seriousness I am pretty sure that UTEP will be gone from CUSA, long before Charlotte and ODU ever play one down of football in CUSA. What I never understood was what was the need for all of these clandestine meetings behind the back of your current conference members. That seems like a backstabby way of doing it. So when UTEP eventually leaves, and who are we fooling, they are going to leave; it is going to seem like a sucker punch to the gut of CUSA.
Mind you now I don't blame UTEP for doing what they are trying to do; but IMO it is silly to pretend to only have eyes for your wife, when you are trying to step out with another woman who works at your job.
I understand what you're saying, and I don't know if UTEP will be in Cusa or the MWC, but lets not forget that during all the talks of the alliance it was rumored that the Cusa schools and Cusa admin wanted to move UTEP out to the MWC. If we do leave, to say we sucker punched the conference would be a stretch, because technically Cusa in a way forced the issue of talks between UTEP and the MWC.

It is silly when you have posters that cry, *****, and moan about not being happy about said conference. I have seen maybe one UTEP fan (who I classify as a StillJonesing wannabee) that has ever bitched about being in CUSA and that poster isn't here anymore.
I'm sure UTEP posters will display courtesy and class if and when their program goes the MWC and that is all we can ask for.

The MWC would go to 14 if they got BYU back or to go into Texas for recruiting; because that conference lost their tie to Texas when TCU left. So UTEP could go if BYU gives up independence or UTEP could go as a package deal with Rice or UTSA. Texas would be a new market for them and we all know that markets mean a lot in expansion.
Who cares? We're all still in a Gang of 5 conference and none of this group will be losing any school to a P5 conference any time soon.
By the way, while everyone over here & other Go5 conference message boards were busy playing "We're Big Time U....Is Your School" games or.......... "my daddy is bigger than your daddy" Northern Illinois U of the MAC had the glass slipper put on their foot and ended up in the Orange Bowl.
Hey everyone! For 10 whole minutes of your lives just be happy with whatever conference your school is a member of now.
And with no significant TV monies for any of our conferences, regional divisions within all our Go5 conferences will be very, very important to each school's budgets.
It's just a damn shame that bottom tier P5 schools will get about $20 million each next athletic year while some of our entire Go5 conferences will be luck to get the same amount. There is just something so wrong about that.

Southern Miss is headed to the AAC or Indy, UTEP and most likely Rice to MWC, and when that happens you will see Marshall back to the MAC. Consider that when debating how many or who will be filling the vacancies.
The most idiotic thing ever said on this thread.

All this says is that JMU would call C-USA; not that C-USA would answer.

Who cares?
I care. I knew almost nothing about southern miss or uab before joining cusa. Southern miss punctured one of our players lungs years ago and uab has screwed us in basketball several times (oh, we remember you a-holes). Marshall was "We are Marshall", nothing more. Now, Marshall is a team that stands in our way of bowl games and trips to the tourney every year. Rice and utep played one of the most exciting games ever played in the sun bowl. I've enjoyed the blossoming rivalries. My daughter still hates the Blazers because a player scooted his butt across our logo after winning a game here on her birthday (pretty funny that she still takes it personally after all these years). I have enjoyed all of this immensely. If we stay, I can't wait to play all you guys again and again. If we move, we're back with teams that we all have great memories of playing against in the past. But I really care about the cool times we've shared in this conference and have no problem with moving forward with all or our cusa mates.

You may want out but I doubt Marshal could go independent and why join the Sunbelt as chances are the CUSA will swipe whatever is left of the Belt in the wake of another defection? Other than that where are you expecting to go?

Considering the source is Andy Katz then I'll take this w/ a grain of salt. Most of the time Katz doesn't know anything outside of basketball.

Arkansas State and Louisiana Lafayette are miles ahead of any FCS schools. There just aren't any other ODUs out there, as much as JMU may think they are.
C-USA will get a taste of what a 16 team league is like this basketball season. Maybe they'll want to pursue 16 again down the road if they like how it works.

Nope
Louisiana Tech is designated as a Tier 1 national university by the 2013 U.S. News & World Report college rankings and is the only Tier 1 national university in the nine-member University of Louisiana System.

THIS! (BTW- Welcome Miner fan).
A large majority of UTEP fans feel the same way. We are fine either way.
I think our focus is on what Floyd can do in bball, and what our new fball coach can do on the field. The focus is internal, and not on what is going on in our environment (advise I give employees, to be happier at work).
Anyway, I look forward to CUSA. And if the day comes when UTEP leaves, I'm most grateful for CUSA having provided a roof over our head when we were out on the street.
