Expansion may not be over for CUSA
CUSA may end up at 16:

"The next movement out of the CAA could be James Madison. JMU is currently weighing what it will do with football. If it were to upgrade, then the first phone call could be to join ODU in CUSA. If that were to happen then CUSA would have to grab one more school to get to an event number, likely looking toward the Sun Belt again."

***

"Oh, and UTEP would love to be in the Mountain West instead of CUSA, according to industry sources."

RE: Expansion may not be over for CUSA
Do you really need 16? I thought the ODU President said they were sticking at 14.

I wouldn't blame UTEP for wanting to go west. Only problem is that the MWC is sitting happy at 12.

RE: Expansion may not be over for CUSA
Not too much new here on expansion. We all know JMU wants to move up "eventually" and that C-USA would be a primary choice of their's. Whether there would be "room in the inn" is a whole other question. Any addition at this point would need to pay for their own inclusion since the playoff money is limited to $12M per Go5 school. That means they'd need to sweeten the future TV contract by whatever amount the 14 current schools would lose from their playoff cut.

UTEP fits better in the MWC...but I think the MWC is happy with their current setup.

Understand UTEP wanting to be in MWC, but I don't see it happening in the near future. I just can't imagine them going past 12 and I can't imagine any of the schools in the MWC being invited to the PAC-12. I think UTEP is stuck in CUSA for the foreseeable future.

It was smart of UTEP to turn them down and give Utah State or whoever it was their invite 01-wingedeagle That did happen right

They turned the MWC down before Utah St and San Jose St were added I believe, so yeah they do. At least that's what I've seen them claim.

I'm not sure if UTEP turned them down. I know UTSA had an offer from the MWC, but chose CUSA.

I don't think their spots were actually taken by Utah State or San Jose St. I think those two were being added no matter what. Them turning down the MWC did allow SDSU and Boise to return, however. If Boise and SDSU didn't return, would the MWC really be that much better than CUSA anyway?

I've seen the "UMASS is being kicked out of the MAC" rumors pop up again lately. I suppose C-USA could end up with JMU and UMASS but that's a real long shot.

Not sure the two of them together would being the conference $5, much less the money to offset the playoff money lost per school with their inclusion.

The MWC would go to 14 if they got BYU back or to go into Texas for recruiting; because that conference lost their tie to Texas when TCU left. So UTEP could go if BYU gives up independence or UTEP could go as a package deal with Rice or UTSA. Texas would be a new market for them and we all know that markets mean a lot in expansion.

At this point if we add 2 more take Arkansas State and ULL force the SunBelt's hand.

Re: Expansion may not be over for CUSA
I think the next CUSA TV deal along with our future bowl lineup will determine how or if there is some future expansion. If either turn out poor I wouldn't be surprised if a few teams went elsewhere.

They really never should have joined CUSA in the first place.

I said it about 100 times. It would've made more sense for post-Big East raid CUSA to have just merged w/ SBC and been done with it instead of both conferences promoting from FCS. No offense to Charlotte and ODU.

RE: Expansion may not be over for CUSA
I disagree with that. CFB is all about egos and who's better than who. C-USA would lose any kind of perception it has of being better than the SBC if they merged. That would never happen.
