RE: ETSU to build $18 Million Football Stadium
I think the 7.5 mil builds 3,500 seats. The fundraising and bonds will take care of the rest of the seating.

It'll open with 3,500 seats for the first season, and the remaining seats will be added later? Seems it would be much, much more cost efficient to build the 10,000 seat structure in one construction cycle.

Maybe the 3,500 is for the visitors side and the 10,000 is for the home side.

Why would anyone begin with just 3500 seats? As bad as attendance in the dome was there were still 5500 people at the game with no marketing, hype, etc. The school will sell 3500 season tickets! I'd bet on 10K before 3500.

No I'm not saying the stadium would open with 3500 seats. I'm saying the student portion of the funding covers the building of that much of the facility and the bonds and fundraising covers the rest. They probably needed a description of how much the student funding would take care of in the building commissions documents.

Again let me say,
Lets don't rush to judgement about football stadium. Not so sure how this 3500 seating got started. Checking with a couple of people at school, they don't know either. The figure or figures I got today is between 10000-15000 initially. Lets don't sit on that 3500 seating, not sure that's going to be the case.

As long as it's not like the baseball stadium when they first played in it. There were no seats or bathrooms, you brought chairs and stood on a hill along the third baseline.

RE: ETSU to build $18 Million Football Stadium
Just an observation........looking only at the Southern Conference, the average sized stadium has 12,256 seats. This is averaged among the ten members other than ETSU. It includes VMI and Mercer, and EXCLUDES Appy State and Ga. Southern. The largest is The Citadel at 21,000, the smallest is Samford at 6700. I think the stadium size should be designed for three phases:

Phase 1: 3500 in order to be field ready by 2015.
Phase 2: Begin immediately after phase 1, and increase to 15000.
Phase 3: Phase 2 should be designed for increase, and perhaps in ten years or so, be expanded to 25,000.

For local comparison sake:
D2 Tusculum College has 3500 seats plus an indoor practice facility.
D2 Carson Newman has 6500 seats
D3 Emory & Henry (Virginia) has 3500 seats.
D3 Maryville College has 3000 seats.

D1AA: Austin Peay has 10000 seats.
D1AA Tennessee Tech has 16,500
D1AA UT Chattanooga has 20,668
D1AA UT Martin has 8,000

D1A: Vanderbilt has 40,350
D1A: Memphis Univ has 61,008 (Liberty Bowl)
D1A: Middle Tenn has 30,788
D1A: and the Big Daddy Univ of Tennessee has 102,455

Yes.........I think a 15,000 seat stadium (expandable to 25,000) would put us right in line with our other comparable state universities. Just my humble opinion.

RE: ETSU to build $18 Million Football Stadium
At this point why would they not open in 2015 with 10,000? There will be PLENTY of metal bleachers for sale and soon.
Daytona International Speedway is getting ready to tear down their entire backstretch grandstand, why not just buy those bleachers?
And who knows, perhaps Bristol maybe looks at a downsizing...
I'm just glad there won't be a track around it at all.

That 2007 drawing shows no track -- so at least they were on the right track then with a drawing:

That was Stanton's drawing, which got alot of bad publicity for being the exact same sketch (except for the logo) as a high school not too far away. I just dont think that sketch has any bearings on today.

I share the hope with almost everyone here that there be no track, but I have not heard anything about it- or even Torbush saying a preference.

There will not be a track around the stadium or built separately for the foreseeable future.

It's a shame the poster we had called straightfromthehorsesmouth isn't around anymore, because this comes from the horses mouth. The track isn't happening in the next four years as of last week.
It's not to say something might change, but remember that 125 deal was just recommendations, opinions on what ETSU should do or look at. I'm sure once Coach Torbush came in, and through some informal conversations with alumni, donors, looking at the recently built stadiums in FCS and FBS and perhaps the occasional viewing of this messageboard the powers that be figured out that a track around the football stadium is an incredibly STUPID idea. Build a separate facility for track and whatever outdoor women's sports get added for Title IX. It looks better for Title IX compliance anyway in the report by saying: "Hey look at us, we built a whole other facility for the women's sports to enjoy and use."

There will have to be a drawing and plans before a stadium can be built.. the question is.. has anyone heard when the plans will be made public????

At the earliest it won't be until end of year. Their problem at the moment is location. Engineers are studying sites that will not be in flood zone and parking has to be considered in the location. That eliminates several areas already. I think they have some ideas on stadium but its all dependent on site at his moment.
