Worst/Best Moments in ETSU History
Obviously the past 10 years or so have been an interesting, frustrating, (place your own adjective here).

To give us more to discuss during this slow season in college sports, I'm going to share my list of 10 worst decisions/moments in ETSU sports over the past, hmm, let's say 30 years. That takes us back to 1983. Yes, I'm googling to see what happened back then. Feel free to give or take a year in your list. Later, I'll share what I think are the best. But this should give us something to think about for the moment.

ETSU Athletics' Worst Moments in Past Three Decades:

1) Naming Dave Mullins as Athletic Director
2) Move to ASun Conference
TIE 2) Dropping Football
4) The Barry Dowd Years in Basketball
5) Hiring Murray Bartow as Basketball Coach
6) 1985 Football Season (0-10-1)
7) Worst bball season in school history: 2013
8) Paul Stanton named president of ETSU
9) Students vote down football referendum: 2007
10) Pitt not named athletic director (Yes, that was for you Pitt. It's hard to come up with #10)

RE: Worst/Best Moments in ETSU History
I would agree with 1-4. Murry Bartow being hired as basketball coach should be on the list, but not at number 5. We have had some good years with him, and he can recruit better than many peer coaches. In terms of ETSU athletics, Paul Stanton being President should be number 5. In terms of the good of the university at large, Paul Stanton should not be on the list- he did some good things for the university and the region.

RE: Worst/Best Moments in ETSU History
Worst:
1. Paul Stanton being named president (based on athletics only, academics is a whole other debate)
2. Dave Mullins being named athletic director
3. Football being cancelled
4. Barbie Breedlove getting hired by Todd Stansbury after she was ran out of town in Boone for having one of the worst winning percentages in women's basketball.
5. Joining the A-Sun.
6. Getting destroyed by Belmont on our home floor in a conference championship game.
7. Last basketball season.
8. Alan Leforce's last team.
9. Ed DeChellis' first team.
10. Losing to Stetson on our home floor.

Best moments:
1. Paul Stanton retiring/The Glory days of Buc Basketball in the early 90's.
2. Dave Mullins being shown the door.
3. Football being restored.
4. Rejoining the SoCon
5. Zakee and Jerald's senior year in basketball.
6. The NCAA team that won the A-Sun tourney that was at Lipscomb
7. Dr. Noland being named president.
8. 1996 football team.
9. ETSU women's basketball winning three straight conference championships.
10. ETSU women's basketball upsetting the Lady Mocs at MacClellan Gym during the Socon tourney (our last year in the SoCon before next year.) For those who were there, that game was "unbeweaveable."
ETSUbuc, make your own list, good and bad, it's July and there's not much going on. Be creative.

RE: Worst/Best Moments in ETSU History
If we are talking about best moments in the last 30 years. The 1991 basketball team has to be #1 and the 1992 team #2 and the two seasons before 1991 should be mentioned as well. How can you forget those guys Lover?

I agree on the last leforce team and first DeChellis team for your 8 and 9 worst moments. Sometimes I think people forget how bad those teams were. DeChellis had nothing when he came on board.

If we included 60's and 70's. 1969 Football season would definitely be on there, and in the worst moments mini-sizing the Mini Dome.(aka building it.)

I'll add these for the worst moments, mostly recent ones:

Men's basketball losing by 32 at home to USC Upstate.
Sheldon Cooley's first arrest.
Sheldon Cooley's second arrest.
Kenyona Swader's technical foul against Belmont in 2008.
Softball's entire history.

RE: Worst/Best Moments in ETSU History
Best moments for me (basketball wise):
-Listening to the broadcast for the UGA game in the Hawaii Tournament (2007?)
-All the conference/conference tournament championships
-Come-from-behind victory against Georgia Southern last season--just a bright moment in what was otherwise a dismal season.
-OOC victories against Dayton, Miss. State, Arkansas
-Pigram's game winner against UTC and 39 against JU.
-Timmy breaking the all-time scoring record

Worst moments for me:
-Seth Coy--the saddest moment.
-Dougie Sirmons 'T' against Keyona (still can't watch the youtube clip)
-Bartow's wimpy play-not-to-lose strategy in the 2nd half against Gardner Webb in the 1st round of the 2006 ASUN tourney.
-The vast majority of the 2013-13 season, esp. the humiliarting shellackings by Upstate and VCU.
-The drubbing at home v. Belmont in the ASUN tourney

Sorry about correcting you, but I had to do it. Also I was really sad when I heard about Seth Coy, he never got to fully develop into a better player and man.

I was at that game and I witnessed the coaching meltdown following the game. Best scene ever was Bartow running through the halls screaming *&@!% this and *&@!% that and *&@!% *&@!% *&@!% *&@!% in the halls of a very conservative Christian university. Some of those poor university workers looked absolutely stricken.

I'm glad to hear he showed some emotion. That call caused me to say some of those same words in my very conservative Christian home at that same time.

Thanks to faithful I just threw up in my mouth. The Gardner webb disaster and Swaders technical were so low I'd blocked them from memory.

Sorry bro!

Still to this day everytime I watch a game that Sirmons officiates it irritates me. The games he calls ALWAYS go the same way. 3-4 fights, atleast two technicals called, a flagrant foul gets called and then usually 30 fouls get called in the second half.

One of the best has to be when ETSU beat Western Kentucky University in three overtimes to win the Ohio Valley Championship in 1978. The Bucs got hopelessly behind more than once and found miracles to stay in it. I'd love to see a video of that posted!

I was there, Mister. Sitting center court, front row of stands. Our crew of about a dozen got to every game very early and got those seats. Do you remember Charles Thaxton in that game? I also remember it was the NBC game of the week, when there was just one game on each major network.

RE: Worst/Best Moments in ETSU History
That game ranks in the top two of my life... My hope at that moment was that game would catapult ETSU into regular ten-thousand crowds and regular national exposure. You know the story. The game catapulted Sonny Smith to Auburn. It was a short lived thrill....that is till Les Robinson showed up. It took him a long time but when Mister landed, huge crowds returned...then Les splits for his Alma mater N.C. State. LeForce kept it going till those players graduated. No coach since has given me hope of national rankings, big crowds, becoming a recognized basketball power. BTW....greatest game of my life was in Atlanta's Omni whoppin Arizona. Thanks Coach LeForce!
