RE: Do you think Bob stoops can get UK to a competitive level?
Well, good thing most UK fans wrote off this year some time ago. I tell you what, though, WKU is going to be a tough out in the Sun Belt this year. Very efficient offense, which you would expect from Petrino.

If Petrino's at WKU any length of time, he's going to build a very good program...

That will depend upon Petrino's choice, his zipper or his career?

Somebody will offer Petrino another job. If SMU could get their hands on him. He would build a national powerhouse with all the talent he would bring in from around north texas.

BigBlue, What are your thoughts on UK passing on Petrino? Probably a good move IMO because he wouldn't stay at UK long enough before jumping to another job.

They should fire Stoops at the end of the season and hire Petrino. Would be a reverse Pitino.

Everyone makes mistakes. We will see if he has learned from his. I hope so because he is a good coach...

I think WKU is in Conf USA this year with us (MT). I don't think it's so much that WKU is that good as it is that UK is that bad. Having said that, WKU could beat MT. I don't think they will, but they have a good chance.

Doesn't WKU have one more year before transitioning to CUSA? I know MTSU is in this year.

Everyone totally understood why we passed on Petrino and still feel like Stoops was the best hire. There was not any doubt that whoever took over WKU had a very good chance of beating us this year. Just look at past results... we barely beat them two years ago and barely lost to them last year. This weekend's result is not unexpected. Joker Phillips left bare cabinets and a lifetime's supply of apathy. The 2015-16 season is really when most reasonable UK fans expect to see a team at the current level of Ole Miss or Vandy. Being an entertaining, hard nosed mid-level SEC program is our aspiration for the short term.
I don't think UK football will ever lose another coach because of money. Tradition and in-state recruiting advantages, sure, but Mitch Barnhart realizes that football needs to improve dramatically or he is done. Commonwealth is about to undergo a major renovation, and basically any ancillary facilities that Stoops needs are in the works. With the money coming in now, there is no excuse to be a perpetual middling program. The correct strategy is in place... keep the very few in-state elite players and then beat the B1G sans Ohio State for the leftover 3 and 4 star players out of Ohio. We are also able to fill out need positions with 3 star kids out of Florida who get a starting opportunity at UK but would be sitting for a while at UF/UGA/Auburn/Bama.

I do not know if Stoops is your guy. I do not think that UK is nearly as untalented as they are being represented. You brought in several decent athletes over the years. Your team looked completely lost Saturday. They had no idea what they were doing most of the time. Your coach also did not start the best arm in an Air Raid offense, makes sense. I just get the feeling that Stoops did not have it all together in planning that game, and that is why WKU dominated both sides of the ball for 60 mins.

Yea, our offensive calls were very conservative. Max Smith looked much more comfortable than Whitlow. As you probably remember, we started Randall Cobb for a while until the light bulb went off to use him as an offensive specialist, similar to how Florida used Percy Harvin. I think that is what UK will do with Whitlow moving forward.
