Wendy Davis would lose huge to Rick Perry
Davis gubernatorial bid a long shot

Quote:Texas may trend Democratic eventually but for now this little factoid sums up the state pretty well- Wendy Davis has a +10 favorability, Rick Perry has a -5 approval, and he still leads her by 14 anyway. It continues to be an uphill battle for Democrats there.

Hilarious that after complete and total love fest for Davis in the last two weeks from the media, begging her to run for Governor, asking "can she turn Texas blue" she'd get her clock cleaned by a guy only 30% want to run again.

She hasn't started a campaign. Little name recognition state-wide yet.

Not saying she can win, just too early to say she doesn't have a chance.

She got two straight weeks of total media love affair and she was down 14 points to a guy only 30% want to run again.

Sure, anything can happen, but I think the overall point is the unfettered love she got from the media was pretty meaningless in the end.

Rick Perry is going to be president, so no worries. 07-coffee3

Texas used to have some really strong and good politicians as recently as 20 years ago... Ron Paul may be the lone exception, but he's an outlier in nearly any category. It's pathetic that things have degraded to the point that the best opposition would lose to an incumbent incapable of winning a contest of "are you smarter than a doorknob". I'm hard pressed to name another state that is any better at this point.

I'd say her chances may have improved.

So glad Slick Rick isn't running again. If only Greg Abbott would join him.

Yeah, she's only down 8 to Abbott.

Demographics may be "shifting" but not quickly enough for a modern Democrat to win Texas.

Wendy Davis will do well to break 40% in a statewide race next year.

Just like the US, Texas has better people that could run.

RE: Wendy Davis would lose huge to Rick Perry
I'd like Wendy to run. She'd certainly do better than some anti-Gay "Democrat" from South Texas (such as Sanchez) running as a crypto-Republican. She'd also be able to do something no Democrat has been able to do in a long time in Texas...raise enough money to compete. Her campaign, even in a loss, would be a real campaign that would help build the Democratic party for future seasons.

Its doubtful either Castro has enough stones to run anyway.

Popular Mayors from Houston don't do well in statewide races, even very wealthy ones (see Bill White). If White couldn't do it, its hard to see how Annise Parker does it.

Especially since the race is now against Abbott instead of Perry.

She's probably looking at 45-47% (and a future statewide run with much more favorable demographics - or a very high profile appointment by BHO - who will still be President after the 2014 elections). She won't be a pushover, she'll be well funded (unlike any statewide candidate for the Dems in the last 20 years), and she'll have tons of volunteers.

She'll win Travis, Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, El Paso, and Bexar counties.

I think she runs. What is she giving up? A state leg seat as a minority member?

Oh, and watch out for Dewhurst and Abbott to beat the tar out of each other in a nasty polarizing primary that will leave the victor with huge negatives. And both will spend like crazy in that primary.

Yeah, the lack of a misspelling should have been a dead giveaway.

A "Nancy Pelosi Democrat" like Wendy Davis has a 0.0% chance of winning statewide in Texas, unless the Republicans ran an axe-murderer as her opponent.

I know. I've been here since 1986.
