We've not had those problems in the past, I think this board and for the most part the JMU regulars here do a pretty fair job of self policing.
The only real problems seem to come from *ahem* elsewhere.

unnecessary. If there is a thread I do not wish to read, I just won't click on it. However, I went to the OT board and there could be some potentially interesting threads if the whole board were to see them and participate. I like having one place for all the threads.
So if people start threads on the main board on their favorite NFL teams, their favorite NBA teams, their favorite MLB teams, their favorite NHL teams, their favorite other college football teams, their favorite other college basketball teams, their favorite hobbies (we could come up with dozens of these), stuff in the news (could come up with stuff everyday,, etc, etc, etc, you're ok with that all that as long as their is an "OT" in front? We could fill the board with dozens of OT threads a day where most everything would start with "OT"....
That is a fair point, but I would think if people wanted to discuss those issues, they would go to the CSNBBS lounge and get opinions from all over. To me the OT stuff like Dave's Taverna, ODU's new stadium, a new sports cable channel that is launched that could have some affect on the lower conferences is interesting and shouldn't be moved. Obviously there is some cutoff
Maybe we can start with moving a thread where an ODU troll starts a thread on the JMU boards regarding ODU's game with ECU?

Should ban any thread on ODU. The ones started by them bring out the trolls. And the ones started by a JMU poster brings out the trolls, plus it smacks of envy.

Just using the ODU helmet thread as an example, we had a discussion on JMU's helmet just before this subject was posted. This is a tangent on that discussion. Seems logical to me. Pretty sure no one on here was envious of ODU's helmet. If the comments didn't include barbs likely to incite, the thread probably wouldn't have attracted as many trolls as it did. Can't put all the blame elsewhere. I've said it countless times on here- it's not what you say, it's how you say it. People getting so wound up about fans from other schools is ridiculous. Prior to the whole "moderator" issue, the ODU fans in this thread weren't even in the same awful league as the Razors and Heywoods of the world.
As others have already stated, ODU is a fellow in state school that we've been rivals with in many sports over the years. We've had discussions about other state schools and rivals in the past as well. This doesn't strike me as any different. The main difference recently is that the "Conference Realignment" thread is our most popular point of discussion. Many of the issues JMU is dealing with, ODU just went through and that naturally leads to conversation. Some of the issues they are having now, we recently went through such as stadium expansion.
Lastly, do we really, as an educated fan base, need to be over regulated on a message board. I am perfectly capable of deciding what is relevant to JMU and interesting to me. I probably haven't clicked on Double Post Ignore but a couple of times. It's just not what I come to the boards for. I choose what topics to look at and follow. Just because some people are annoyed by certain topics doesn't mean the whole of the board is. Topics spring up and fizzle based on their own merit. I don't ever need anyone to tell me what's in my best interest.
Here endeth my rant. Now let's start kickin' butt in football!

Certainly nothing Off Topic about a thread that has garnered 8,160 views and 228 posts or one that has 2,894 views and 65 posts. Seems that is a topic that a lot of members want to talk about.

I'm with you BSKB, but you are hammering your point home. My wife says that I do the same thing when trying to make a point or trying to get someone to listen.

Exactly. I'm an Atlanta Braves fan. So when I want to read Braves chat...I go to the Braves Forum...not the Dukes forum. Why would someone start a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with JMU? I mean you could argue that some of the ODU nonsense is completely OT, but it's still about a team that has become JMU's biggest rival and is noteworthy at least. I don't see a lot of people posting things that have absolutely nothing to do with Madison. Just my opinion...
