Especially if he's allowed to use his bat from 3 years ago..

I'm wondering how much it was the ball and how much it was the bat. Matt Gonzalez talked about how much tighter the ball felt coming off the bat.

I did finally watch a DVR version today. Exciting finish, wouldn't you say? (Avoiding any spoilers, though someone has at least given the totals.) It was exciting, even knowing the result.

I just saw the final 10 minutes. Good publicity for Aquino and Rice. That should actually help our reputation a bit next year.

Final Round about to start on ESPN rebroadcast, though I'm sure many of you are watching coverage from SFO right now.

i guess for the next year, the answer ot the trivia question "Which Rice player was the last to hit a home run in Omaha?" will be Aquino.

If the question is which Owl has hit the most HRs in the CWS, I would guess Aaron Luna -- I think I can remember 3 from him. I think Austin Davis had a couple as well.

Slightly different question, but one I would like to know the answer to.

Luna homered in both '07 and '08 and is tied with Damon Thames with 2 homers each. Jake Baker hit the first Rice long ball in the '97 CWS. Others with one each are Jason Gray ('99) Will Ford ('99) Austin Davis ('02) Mike Lorsbach ('02 pinch hit) Vince Sinisi ('03) Tyler Henley ('06 leadoff) and Diego Seastrunk ('08). Berkman never hit one but did have along triple off the center field wall against LSU.

I thought Luna hit 2 in 07 (L'ville and UNC) and 1 in 08 (LSU) and that Davis hit one each in 02 (ND) and 03 (SMS).

Though it was Savery's bases clearing triple off the CF wall that sparked the huge come-from-way behind victory in that Louisville game (CWS opener) after Ber-ry was shelled early. If I recall correctly, Luna followed with a solo shot to get us within a couple runs...then, after we had taken the lead, Luna put the icing on the cake with another bomb late.

RE: Aquino hits 6 HR's in His First AB at HR Derby
My favorite Rice CWS HR was one of Damon Thames's in 1999. I remember in the at-bat he hit 2 balls over the LF wall but just foul. He clearly had the pitcher's number, yet the guy threw him another in almost the same spot and he hit it over the fence fair. Or I am getting old, my memory is failing, and that is how I've chosen to remember it (if someone corrects me).

Of course, I was the 26th man on the 25-man travel roster at the time, so I was watching on ESPN2 while playing in the Alaska League with summer teammates from Duke and Harvard. Watching games is much more enjoyable now with more sports stations on TV, games on the internet, and DVR. I remember one of the CWS games was at the same time as my summer league game and I had to record on VHS at my host family's house to watch later! And it ended up being a rain-delay!
