I would take Cal over Calkins and Parrish any day.

What an unprofessional thing to do in the first place and second, to do that when your alma mater loses? Glad this is getting out now.

There is a difference between being a jerk and a high profile coach with swagger. Memphis never had that before. Some people still have trouble dealing with it.

Wow, 20 minutes. It didn't seem that long but Parrish tells a really good story on this one. I get the feeling that he still harbors a dislike for Calipari but can't say it due to his position as a national college basketball writer.

You might recall that Parrish almost had his pass into the Rupp (yes, I know oldtiger) cancelled after publishing a true but unflattering article regarding a Kentucky player.

I think that was a couple of years ago, and yes, I think a lot of the media got and understood the message. Well, except for Jeff Goodman. 04-cheers

Really? That's quite a 180. Guess "liking" John Calipari was written into his job description over at ESPN. I suppose I could say I "liked" the SOB if they paid me enough.

I doubt Chris Vernon or, for good reason, Geoff Calkins will ever 'like' Calipari. Well Vernon might have to if he goes national.

The quotation marks around LIKED were intended to imply that he had stopped his relentless targeting of Cal, something that damned near defined him when Cal was our coach. I try not to read him (or Parrish) any longer, only because I prefer to avoid snivelling as a going concern.

Cal is a jerk.

Anyone suggesting he is not is fooling themselves.

Just because he is successful doesn't mean he isn't a prick.

RE: Parrish's story about high fiving after our 2008 loss to Kansas
There was a lot of talk but none confirmed (to my knowledge) by Parrish until now. I'm glad that it is kind of into the open. Some say Parrish isn't sure if it happened, but Keith says that it didn't. I actually heard from a few sources, that saw Parrish and Forde high fiving each other when Chalmers made the shot; not after the game. I haven't been able to listen to the show, so I have no idea.

In any event, I'm trying to get my head wrapped around an alumnus being happy under ANY circumstances when his school loses the national championship. It doesn't make any sense at all. I can understand any person disliking/hating any person they went to school with, or who played or coached at a school; but unless that person committed some type of horrible crime; this dislike/hatred should NEVER trump wanting what is best for the school.

BTW, if Parrish says he doesn't remember, then I am 99% sure that it did happen. You can bet the ranch that if it didn't happen, he would definitely remember it not happening. Incredible.

RE: Parrish's story about high fiving after our 2008 loss to Kansas
Possible explanation? Every scribe and talking head out there had been writing about free throws as an Achilles Heel of that team, with Cal scoffing it off as unknowledgeable drivel. When that shot went down, maybe they were celebrating the shot as a "Told you so" moment, which in and of itself is a petty "Me! Me! Me!" reality. Cal apparently grated on those scribes that much.

It's KINDA like a gambler who bets against his team and wins.

03-nutkick

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I watered it in fears,
Night and morning with my tears;
And I sunned it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine.
And he knew that it was mine,

And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning glad I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

What's lost in here is Easterwood's update on Kuran Iverson. Latest update says his eligibility is likely.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm saying he said it didn't happen.

Sounds like they were pissed.

I did ask.

Someone familar with his situation has gone from "there's no way" at the start of the school year, to telling me yesterday "I think he's going to make it".

I've known one of his coaches for years.
