Never quite heard the whole story about how SLU left C-USA, but it seems to be a pretty classy place.

A-10 was also gracious to those who left.

Colonial wasn't. I think we all know that.

Yes, just a bit different to what we expect to see from the ACC when Maryland leaves next summer.

I doubt you see much from the ACC. They certainly aren't going to publicly badmouth UMD. Don't be a wuss.

SLU and Charlotte were basically moved along so CUSA 2.1 could be a all sports conference. There wasn't any more or less to that.

I guess it couldn't have been on too bad of terms if Charlotte was readmitted. SLU should have never left, but that's a whole different story.

I think SLU was smart in getting out of CUSA. A10 a much stronger league than CUSA when Louisville, Cincy, and Marquette all left. SLU wouldn't have been staying in CUSA of the early '00s.

Basically the basketball onlies were about the same time that some of the other all-schools left, that C-USA was going to go to an "all-sports" only conference, and basically gave them an option of adding D1 football or offered them a window of opportunity to get stuff in order so they could find a basketball conference.

It was basically an amicable parting.

That would make sense. As I remember being told, there was no penalty assessed for leaving the conference at that time.

We need us some Billiken football! :)

I believe it was amicable, as CUSA just invited Charlotte back. Back then though I don't think Charlotte or SLU really had a choice and had to find someplace else. Luckily we found the A10, but being the southern most school in a northern conference never felt right. Glad to be back in CUSA. Also glad to finally have football!!

Houston was officially a charter member but played the last season in the SWC before moving over to CUSA the following year.

that's right, we missed the first 1996 season of the spring sports. but, we did play in the inaugural CUSA season of football and shared the 1996 title with you guys. that original six-team incarnation of cusa was my favorite.

We played them head to head and though the conference record was tied we won the conference outright thanks to our win against smiss.

Smith was a beast that night!
