am i the only one expecting big things, or some significant contribution, from sanders and thomas? something about sanders tells me he could be a long range bully. i feel the thomas has a significant ceiling. excited also for these guards, have been since they verballed.

Anyone who watched the Creighton game should know that big things are possible from Shaq in the coming seasons.

c'mon chatter. your message board humor calling is to craft puns so lame that they're funny. and that cannot be taught.

I expect a lot from Shaq this year. He is going to start and I think he will play a lot of minutes. Sanders I'm not as sure about. I'm more optimistic on him than a lot of UC fans, but he has to prove he can do it.

Well with all these guards hopefully we can run and press and play fast this year like Mick has talked about for the last 5 years, really hard to get excited about the 49-48 slugfests where we walk the ball up the court stand around and fire up contested 28ft 3 pointers!!!

Sanders makes alot of bonehead plays, especially on defense. He gets out of position way too often. I think his offensive game is one dimensional (launch that long slow over your head 3).
Thomas has alot of potential and really like the mismatch he can be. I think this will be a breakout year for him.

i can imagine Sanders having success as a standstill shooter knocking down corner treys on a kick out or a zone buster, assuming his shot improves. Unfortunately, he is incredibly slow, or at least looked like that to me, and can't/doesn't contribute enough on D to merit him being on the floor for extended periods of time.

Agree on Shaq. I expect at least 9 to 13 ppg from him. I like his game. I like his frame and he has an attack mentality. I also think he wants the ball in crunch time and at least isn't afraid to take a clutch shot.

Sanders...he just seems too "quiet" or timid. I like the kid but he just doesn't seem to have a killer attitude or something. I hope he proves me wrong.

Not saying I disagree with any of the assessments on Sanders, but it wouldn't shock me if he surprises everyone this year. I just remember everyone (myself included) writing off JaQuon Parker after his sophomore year. Then he turned around and was one of the best players on the team his last two years.

Here's hoping the upcoming juniors can make some leaps of improvement as well. Because if they can, this team will be very deep.

Sanders just doesn't have the look of a Big East (err AAC player). No speed, no jumping ability, no quickness. Limited ability to put it on the floor and he's only a decent shooter. Doesn't add much on defense either. JaQuon at least showed flashes as a ball handler and attacker during his freshman year. He could always play defense too. If Morman is eligible, I expect he will really cut into Sanders (potential) minutes.

I completely agree, I have yet to see Sanders make a play to convince me that he can play at a high major level. I am still puzzled as to how he was regarded as such a high volume scorer coming out of high school. He just lacks the explosiveness that you would like to see in a swing man at this level and doesn't seem to fit into the system Cronin is trying to implement. Sanders better show something this year because if he doesn't I can see him transferring to a smaller school unless he wants to sit the bench for his career.

He was the Manhattan player of the year...you would think he would be tougher and more physical

RE: DSL 6/29
I haven't seen anything from Sanders either that lives up to him being so highly regarded coming out of high school. Like others, I welcome him proving me wrong.

As thankful as I am for the multiple trips to the Big Dance by Cash and Jaquon.........I'm really looking forward to this new group, who I think brings a tremendous amount of versatility. I think there are a lot of players who might surprise and step up from time to time with a big game.

There are three groups here: Group 1 are the remaining veterans who have been sitting behind the players who graduated the past 2 years. Now is their time to step up and show us what they got - JDIII, Guyn, Sanders, Thomas. Group 2 are the returning starters/contributors/Seniors who have one final chance to show us what they got - Kilpatrick, JJ, Rubles, and Nyarsuk. Group 3 are the talented freshmen - KJ, Mormon, Caupain, Strickland, and Lawrence.

Other than S K, there are definitely question marks in groups 1 and 2, which lead many fans wanting to see the freshman of group 3. All of this makes for an interesting upcoming season full of unknowns.

Thankfully, the competition level in the new conference is down. This is going to be an adjustment year after a couple years on the uptick. No quality experience at PG. Ditto for bigs. Not the combo you look forward to.

You bet. Expextations should be tempered this year. Making the tourney should be the goal.
