There's nothing wrong with a "nod to history". At home games, you'll see plenty of Bart Robert's and Blackbeard flags...

yeah, but you don't want a Blackbeard flag or whoever as a primary logo.

on a black helmet with black unis and purple numerals.

I have always wanted what you described above, with yellow outline on the purple numbers. Everything else black and white lettering.

I would rather use one of these on the helmet, simple:

I think the purple hat needs to change. I think back to the Pittsburgh Pirates old logo from the late 70s and how lame it was. Their new pirate logo doesn't use a hat at all, just a red bandana.

Remember this one ...

I really really really REALLY hate the sportslogos website for posting that awful traced copy of the Strutting PeeDee. You would not believe how often I see that damn thing around campus with the messed up finger and stuff. I absolutely hate whomever did the tracing of it. THIS is what it should look like:

I only wish that the letters were a traditional block style.
I had this crazy idea of putting ECU under the skull n bones on the helment! What a concept. Sometimes I wonder what we're paying some of our people for.

I want ECU on one side & the JR on the other side of the helmet.

The original Strutting PeeDee or the one that has the messed up hand?

RE: Which school mark for ECU: Jolly Roger or Pirate?
I often wonder if these boards have some influence on administrations. It's funny that when I originally started this thread I really hoped that ECU would make the jolly roger the primary logo. The total vote on this board was obviously overwhelmingly in favor of that change as well. Fast forward just over a half a year later and the change was made (although the jolly roger itself also changed slightly).

The new image has grown on me since it was unveiled. Still prefer the old teeth though.

I never understood the critique of a mascot or branding looking cartoonish since most schools mascots and brands look cartoonish. The exception might be some with animal mascots but even in those cases the game day mascot looks cartoonish

If Notre Dame was not well...Notre Dame this one would look pretty stupid IMO

Oregon Ducks have some cool uniforms now but the mascot ??
Cartoonish comes to mind but I doubt their fans moan and complain as much as ECU fans do

Best Football program in College Football rolls this Sesame Street character out on to the field to rally the fans yet I doubt they care it looks so silly

All in all I will take our new logo any day

the Oregon mascot is based on Donald Duck, a cartoon. They have a special licensing agreement with Disney.
