RE: Syracuse AD Considering adding Baseball
For Syracuse, I think adding men's - and likely women's - ice hockey should be the priority, then baseball. Given their location, Syracuse could become a power in hockey while they'll never be anything more than cannon fodder in baseball.

Then, perhaps down the line, if the Cuse hockey program is successful, they, along with Boston College and Notre Dame, could help spearhead a new property for the ACC Network (which will happen) to televise.

Knowing Dr. Gross I could see Cuse hosting a late season ACC tourney at Cooperstown. Cooperstown is about 80 mins east.

RE: Syracuse AD Considering adding Baseball
I'm not a Cuse fan so I don't really have a dog in this fight. However, I do think that if the school is dead set on adding a sport it should focus on adding men's ice hockey. In my opinion, Ice hockey would make way more sense given the school's location and the issues with weather. Plus, I'd love to see Syracuse competing in Hockey East.

That said, if UConn, Boston College, Buffalo, Canisius College, Cornell, Le Monye (which is in Syracuse), etc cann all sport baseball, I don't see why Syracuse can't as well.

I noted Stoneybrook because they in a "cold weather" state and were able to put together a CWS team. Syracuse being a bigger name should be able to recruit enough talent to field a decent team.

I'm not a Cuse fan either but ice hockey doesn't really benefit the ACC. Syracuse sponsors 7 of the 13 mens sports the ACC sponsors. Plenty of room to expand in the conference.

I would also avoid the SU logo. The Duke students will finish spelling that word for you...again...and again...and again...

Yeah but is that really a concern with the dozens of fans Duke draws to it's baseball games?

They already added women's ice hockey in 2008 to replace their men's and women's swimming & diving teams.

I think they were thinking along those lines back then. Hockey does make more sense from a regional point of view, but I think the ACC move has changed things up to a degree with a more southern looking view of the landscape. I think a major problem is what conference would SU have access to in hockey. Would they be guaranteed a spot in Hockey East or be indefinitely stuck in Atlantic Hockey or the ECAC? Hockey East is currently sitting at 13 members when UConn comes on board in 2014, so I'd think eventually they could get in. SU's women's team is currently in the CHA and play in a 350 seat arena. If SU could be guaranteed a spot in Hockey East, it might make more sense than baseball but you'd have to have the AD's numbers to crunch to figure that out and balance that against possibilities for success.

But it is extremely unlikely that the ACC will ever be adding hockey. In a hypothetical, I think you'd need at least six team for the ACC to legitimately think about sponsoring it. I can't imagine BC thinking there is any upside to pushing that though, and without BC pushing it, it is likely not going to happen. They don't seem to care there isn't ACC fencing. But even with SU, you're only at 3. ACC hockey is a pipe dream without adding more teams in the North, like UConn.

Just an FYI Hockey East would be at 12 with UConn not 13. They're just adding the Men's program in 2014.

oh yeah, sorry, I actually, for some reason, was counting UConn twice...yep, so that would make it more difficult for SU to get in. I'm guessing they are more likely to add baseball without a sure slot in Hockey East.

Hockey is expensive and the only realistic landing spot for a Syracuse team would be Atlantic Hockey. Even then, I think they will probably get beat out for that open AH slot. There are a couple schools that have inquired about joining the league (Navy has been rumored for awhile and I think Lindenwood may be one of the others).

Baseball would make sense. Wrestling would also. Gymnastics could be an option for the women, as it would allow the ACC to form a league now that Maryland is leaving.

SUccess or SUper?

Btw, there's a video that someone made of a bunch of Georgetown students waiting to get tickets to a SU v. GU game. Anyway, one of the girls said "[y]ou can't spell 'sorry' without 'SU!'"

P.S. I really, really hope that Duke v. SU doesn't ever deteriorate into SU** v. DUmb.

P.P.S. I would feel sorry for the Duke University marching band, but I hear that they're "special." 03-lmfao

I hope Cuse adds Baseball and Women's Gymnastics.

Cuse found themselves in a situation were all they had to do to join one of the top baseball conferences is fund a team. Kinda the same situation that every ACC non-scholarship Lacrosse school finds themselves in. I hope Louisville adds Lacrosse too.
