They need to tag the individuals doing it in order to stop it.
That could bring a major impact.

Cheat and become a top 5 program, and earn several millions of dollars a season. If you get caught, hire an army of hire power lawyers and threaten to tie the NCAA up in an expensive legal case for several years. The NCAA doesn't want to pay for an expensive court case, so you get a slap on the wrist, and go about your business. Is that what Oregon just did?

Not really. Oregon actually followed the rules, except for allowing non-coaching personnel to make phone calls and not receiving the required documentation from Will Lyles. The rules allow for schools to pay for recruiting services as long as they are registered with the NCAA and provide quarterly reports. Lyles didn't provide the reports, but was registered with the NCAA. The extent of Lyles' impermissible inducements to Seastrunk include $100 cash and a hotel stay for an all-star game.

Oregon hired attorneys, but never threatened to sue the NCAA (unlike Miami, who actually did make that threat, or PSU who had the governor file a lawsuit that failed). Oregon fully cooperated and admitted to all of their faults, unlike Ohio State, UCF, UNC, or even South Carolina. That's why they really got off lightly, and why I don't think Miami - who has openly admitted to stonewalling investigators - will.

Pennsylvania State University has NOTHING to due with Governor Corbett's lawsuit against the NCAA.

Zero, nada, nilch.

Ditto for the recently filed lawsuit by the Paterno family.

As an alum who defends the majority of my school's leaderships actions since November 2011, I think this is important to point out.

We talk about the money advantage the P5 schools have over the G5 schools, but that's insignificant compared to the NCAA penalty advantage. Hypothetically ... given the same violations, I'd much rather be Alabama than Western Kentucky.

P5 schools wear a bullet-proof vest. G5 schools are SOL.
