Started the first nine games at center before suffering a season-ending injury … had a season-best seven knockdown blocks against Idaho … recorded five knockdowns against Nevada … tallied four pancakes against Stephen F. Austin and three in three games versus Texas Tech , New Mexico and San Jose State … had a knockdown block and a block 10-yards downfield against Louisiana Tech before suffering his injury in the game … recorded a season-best of two 10-yard blocks and a pancake block in his first collegiate game at Houston … allowed just one sack and one pressure hit on Bobcat quarterbacks throughout the season.

2011: Sat out the season as a redshirt.

High School: Two-time All-District 3-5A selection … was an All-State selection … named Second-Team All-American … helped lead Abilene Cooper to a district championship and a regional finals appearance against Denton Guyer … helped pave the way for Cooper’s offense to average 462.0 total yards and 40.3 points per game … named to 2011 U.S. Under-19 National Team, assembled by USA Football … had 91 knockdowns during junior season … three-year starter for coach Mike Spradlin … also competed in the discus.

Personal: Born April 12, 1993 in Abilene … son of Nora and Michael Freeman ... major is criminal justice at Texas State.

Matt Freeman was the type of player that, if he were a couple of inches taller and 20 lbs heavier, he probably would've been an easy 4 star player. I bet he will become a first team center for the SBC for his junior and senior years.
