As of right now that's how it is academically... La Tech- ULL-ULM in that order. It doesn't make you sound like a branch campus unless you perceive yourself to be a branch campus. Look at the Cal- UCLA, Nevada- UNLV examples. I'm not saying go for an all out name change like in the 80's I'm just saying that since ULM has already taken the initiative to brand themselves as ULM, why not allow ULL to brand themselves as Louisiana athletically yet retain the academic name ULL. No confusion, no perception differences about which is a home campus as both are unique to the prospective institution like those mentioned above. No one will be trying to figure out if you're a branch campus or not while watching you play on tv. Calling yourself a regional name the like University of Acadiana gives off the true idea that you are insignificant to the larger population. Do that if you want but that would be a death wish to me if I were an administrator of a university.

It is SACS or the Southern Assoiciation of Colleges and Schools that set the Accreditation Standards for all Southern Universities and Carnegie Foundation that are the most respected rankings. Neither have Louisiana Tech as a Tier I and of course they never mention anyone but US News Report. UL is very close to meeting the Accreditation Standards of Teir 1 status.

Just because it is not an academically founded group doesn't make it's say any less respected than others. SACS and the Carnegie Foundation are academics for academics. US News does do an academic review but it is has different qualifying standards for the different tiers. It's like having the Harris, AP, and BCS polls. Different formulas for each and using one more often does not make it less legitimate... unless it is Sagaran.

You need to talk to people in higher education. SACS sets the critera for Accreditation, but US News rankings carry the same weight? Think about that before your answer.

I work in higher education dude and they look at that as well as any similar publication that puts something out about rankings that isn't the equivalent of things like Bleacher Report so why don't you simmer on that. Accreditation is a totally different animal from ranking universities so why don't you talk to some people in higher education before you answer, bro. I never said they carry the same weight but that it is another evaluation tool of universities. Cajun fan or not, talking out of your back end and putting words in peoples mouths doesn't fly. Knowledge is key and it sounds like you don't have any right now.

http://www.advanc-ed.org/what-accreditation ...so you know what accreditation is

Congrates! No one said you weren't but I'm not surprised you are in higher education and would attack me while you have your nose up a ULM fans backside when he was honest enough to come clean about his bull****! For the record, I'm going with what several members of the UL System Board have told me, if you want to disagree with them then by all means do so jackazz!

You mean calling a ULM fan out for their own hypocrisy is getting derailed? Or do you have your head up his proverbial backside that you don't have a clue what their administration and supporters have done behind the scenes?

I call rehashing the same idea in consecutive posts derailing. So it's a vast anti-Cajun conspiracy I guess..... I got it now CrazyCajun. I guess being rational about things isn't something that normal people do.

We are competing just fine and are hiring a new AD to come in and raise funds to continue to compete and improve facilities. We have done a lot with the lowest budget in FBS and will this year as well. If we are able to get our budget up to where it needs to be, you may be the one who needs to be concerned sir. But that is not the concern of the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Sorry, but I don't think you and others are in a position to lecture when you just admitted to being jealous and petty in your thought process.

When did I admit to bring petty and jealous? I just said we don't recognize you as a flagship or as "Louisiana or UL". No one wants to hear a name debate for the millionth time, so let's just stop this now. This is pointless.

In doing so you've admitted to conflating the two as the same importance and to what we have stated all along, that ULM supporters have constantly tried to undermind our branding efforts at every turn. You have chosen your brand for athletics, our branding athletics "Louisiana" is not your concern. Instead of complaining about what efforts UL has made to brand their athletics, try raising acdemic standards, funding endowments and improve funding for athletics. In other words try competing in the areas of academics and athletics instead of being another university trying to bring others down to your level.

If someone reasonable like Cajunfan89 would like to discuss the name
issue I will be happy to, but again I'm not going to put everyone on this board through another useless name debate with someone who just wants to spew backhanded insults to my university.

Cajunfan89 is reasonable to you because he either doesn't have a clue or doesn't care what ULM has done behind the scenes. I don't call anyone reasonble that has stated they have a problem with our use of "Louisiana" for athletic branding because it makes ULM look bad or UL look like a flag ship. It’s a ridicules assertion because the ULM alumni base have failed to support your program. What you look like now has nothing to do with our branding of athletics as Louisiana and more to do with your failure to raise funds and improve your academic standards.

LOL! So it's a vast anti-cajun conspiracy I guess...? Enough said Cajun89, that's all I need to know. Come back when you have actaully learned what their administration has done behind the scenes and Mr. Hoffman has done in Baton Rouge. If you don't know the players, then you really don't have a clue. Thanks

All you do is propagate hatred which is why receive it in return. Try looking at an issue from all perspectives rather than through your vermillion colored glasses and maybe you'd understand the real way to get people to call us what we want. Don't think for a second that Mr. Hoffman is the only person in BR trying to do things for his university as you know very well that there are people from Cajun Nation there trying to do the same things back. It's a two way street and reciprocity is how it works. Try taking a foreign relations class and you might understand these concepts.

I would like to think that those of us that are regulars on this board would have a bit of respect for each other. I guarantee no one else wants another name thread and I don't either. I didn't ask or it to get moved to the smack board, but I think it was best. I always try to be extremely reasonable and actually thought we were having a rational discussion until you went on the attack. And my hypocrisy? What are you even talking about? Moving along...I'm ready for some football.

As I said before I would prefer for all you ULL fans to call us the New Orleans Saints. I just don't know we you are attacking me. I didn't say you couldn't call your university whatever you want. Yet you think I'm unreasonable because I not call you that? You guys would get WAY more people to call you what you want if you weren't demanding it and going off on people when they don't. You're going to just end up pissing everyone off.

How has that foreign relations process worked out for UL up to this point Dr. Authement? Get out of the classroom and live in the real world sir, the back room deal made in finding a compromise led to the name Louisiana-Lafayette. You would be good to learn from the first mistake, do not trust people that don't want you to succeed.

I like how the defense mechanism of calling someone who doesn't agree with your view point as "Dr. A", really classy considering Dr. A kept the university in a financial state to be able to make these improvements campus and athletics related, especially during a time when budgets are being sliced at will. Granted not the most savvy person when it came to athletics or building a brand that way, he did more good overall for the university than you probably care to admit. That "backroom deal" got us out of being a directional school so take that for what it's worth. I'm done arguing with you as trying to reason with you is like trying to reason with a rock. I never would have figured someone so obtuse would come from my university but I guess I was wrong. Lump me in with lctish and the others that everyone on Ragin Pagin seems to hate on because I don't drink the Kool-Aid as much as y'all would like.

As for SBC Branding I'd like to see the GSU's simply go by Georgia State, and Georgia Southern and I'm sure the abbreviations will follow accordingly GaSt and GaSo or something of the sort. I think both AD's will do what they cant to prevent being labeled GSU on game boards and TV.

I wonder if they plan (or maybe they have already) to discuss that.

This is exactly my point. No one else cares. Cajunfan89, rep points for you sir. We definitely don't always agree, but you are always classy, reasonable, and respectful.

No, I would say you are indeed drinking the kool-aid like many other former Dr. Authement supporters you don’t see the larger picture and never will period. I’m more than happy to be lumped in the category that does not include the cocktail elitist group of political cronies that ran the athletic program into the ground and were interested more in self preservation. You career cronies all sound alike and it’s a shame the culture hasn’t changed nearly enough since Dr. Savoie has taken over the reins of the university. This athletic program is starting to become successful in spite of the number of individuals like you still involved at the university. And for the record, Ictish is tightwad that loves to talk a good game, the day he puts more money into the athletic program will be his first!

-------------The one thing that is being left out of this is the fact that we (UL) went through the name process in the '80s exactly the same way that TECH changed their name and that UNO changed its name and were the UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA---We had stationary, signs, streets, and all the other components of the name changed ---then the LSU factions took over and eventually got us back to USL---think you might be a little pissed if you graduated from the University of Louisiana and had that on your diploma but latter had your alma Mater's name taken away---For our name we fight as it was taken away unjustly!!!

I know that UL was sitting on its butt or was held back by the neck in trying for new conference affiliation---just compare us to Tech in these areas----Academics (debatable on the better)---market share---athletic success---Budget---endowment---enrollment---attendance---population---past football success (Tech)---future football success---Wealth of area--- Capital improvement expenditures---Athletic complex expenditures---population in geographical area in the southern part of the state---unemployment rate---present facilities----And in All of these categories Monroe is last or behind UL---See this is the real world and what is now being allowed to happen at our university!!!
