football scholarship offer
so the twitter world says we've offered a 'ship to this guy:
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...cet-131148
Michigan, UNC, Penn St, UVa, VaTech, Tennessee, ODU, JMU
we are going after more guys recruited by the big boys this year than we ever have in the past. Mickey has always been one who is realistic in recruiting. He won't waste time and resources on a buy getting heavily recruited by top BCS programs.
And by "big boys" I don't mean ECU, ODU and Marshall.....i mean the true big boys....Michigan, Tennessee, Penn St, etc
And some of you guys STILL think we are staying in FCS?

RE: football scholarship offer
has has ZERO offers from those guys, but he is 6'2" and projected as a CB at the next level. That is a large corner!
Lets wait and see who offers him before we get too pumped.

The Rivals site, has no offers listed for this young man. He may be holding an offer from JMU, and the other Schools listed may in fact have interest.
Here is an example of recruiting offers that ODU is in the middle of for the 2014 recruiting year. ODU has stepped it up again this year. Wilder and company have been very aggressive on the recruiting front.

Good luck to JMU!
I think the landscaping of Virginia Football recruiting will continue to change, regardless of the direction JMU eventually heads.

Hampton, Marshall, and Towson are the only schools that have offerred this kid. He might have interest from some big boys, but it is probably very minimal at this point.

RE: football scholarship offer
I have a question regarding recruiting. If a school has offered a scholarship to an athlete and he accepts the offer, can the school then take a closer look and decide not to accept the verbal commitment at that point? What are the schools responsibilities to keep it's word regarding offers.
I know ODU has over a hundred offers out for about twenty five schollies (18 remaining.)

From what I understand, some offers are given out with conditions. The difference comes into play with accepted offers. If a School made an offer and the student gives a verbal commitment the University would always honor. If for example all the positions have been filled (Scholarships available), most offers would no longer be on the table.

You might want to do some research into a practice known as gray shirting which is highly frowned upon by many but a lot of the upper echelon (e.g. SEC, Big 10) type programs do it pretty regularly. Don't have time to explain it but if you just google it I'm sure you'll come up with plenty of info.

Brandon got offers from Boston College, Purdue, WVU, Buffalo, Ohio & Temple. He also got JMU, Richmond, W&M & ODU offers. VT showed some interest as well.
Very, VERY excited to see if he can become an impact player for the Dukes.

You mention the Big 10, but to be fair I've seen it reported that they've been fairly aggressive at curtailing the practice at their schools. SEC is the worst no doubt.
