SBC Football Countdown - 68

68 Donald Hopkins
Position: DT
Height: 6-2
Weight: 270
Class: Freshman
Hometown: Lago Vista, Texas
Last School: UH

2012
Sat out last season as a transfer from Houston.

High School
Four-star performer by ESPN.com and selected to play in the Under Armour All-America Game ... listed among the nation’s Top 20 defensive tackles by ESPN.com and an impact player by Rivals.com ... played three seasons for head coach Alan Haire ... was among the Top 28 overall players in the State of Texas by ESPN.com … led Lago Vista to two district championships, and the area and regional championships in 2011 with an 11-2 overall record ... was part of a program that won 31 games the last three years, including a 13-1 mark in 2010 ... three-year varsity letterman ... named First Team All-District 13-2A and First Team All-CenTex as a senior … finished that season with an incredible 92 tackles and six sacks from his down lineman position ... earned Second Team All-State honors as a senior ... Also competed in track and field for the Vikings.

[Hopkins had 18 offers coming out of HS; including TXST. We were on his short list but he chose UH.
Offers - Alabama, Arizona, Arizona St, Army, Baylor, Idaho, Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, TXST, UTSA, Tulsa, Utah, Wake Forest, Wyoming
At UH he had already signed his LOI but never got to the field. He asked to leave for personal (family) reasons. He was given his release so had to sit out.
Word is he isn't living up to his billing (ie: a bit lazy) and, so far, has not impressed anyone (during spring practices.)]

Is he eligible to play this year? He is not on the two deep, but I don't recall when he transferred.

Yes. He never played a down at UH because he got his release (and transferred) at the beginning of fall practices (Aug 11). He sat out last year and is eligible this season.

Now if he would just get in shape and live up to his potential. Can't believe he doesn't even make the three deep.
