Funny that when it is a Cajun fan asking for recognition of his school's preferred athletic branding it is "smack", but others can do likewise and it is allowed. So much for the concept of respecting your conference mates.

For the record...that thread was getting split either way. It was off topic, and had derailed to a Cajuns vs Warhawks smack fest. We have a smack board for that. Please use it.

How about you guys PM each other, nobody else wants to read your argument.

As for SBC Branding I'd like to see the GSUs athletics departments simply go by Georgia State, and Georgia Southern. As far as game boards and TV, there are number of different options. Some I prefer more than others.
GaSt - GaSo (these sound awkward out loud... "gast" and "gaso" but, might be the most preferable)
Ga State - Ga Southern
GSU - GS
GState - GSouthern

I think both AD's will do what they can to prevent both being labeled GSU on game boards and TV.

I wonder if they plan (or maybe they have already) to discuss that.

It is a little much. One argument from two schools should be handled outside. It can easily take over in a hurry.

Getting back on topic ...

When I see GSU I think Georgia State. When I see just a GS I think Southern. So either way I think would work. Might be hard to see on a ticker. I still prefer GaSt and GaSo.

GSU and GSO?

hm.. hadn't thought about that one, except I think GSO (when compared to GSU) looks too much like an acronym... so I look at it and go "Georgia State... Organi.. no no.." "Georgia Southern O.... no no..." "Georgia SOuthern!! Oh!"

As annoying and petty as the "the real GSU" debate is, there is some good in it. It is the backbone to the budding rivalry. Granted it could cause some harm from a public perception point of view. No good comes from us getting confused with each other. I personally am fine with GASO, GS or GSO, but there's no way we can just give in and let State have GSU.

Because?

And this is my point from an earlier post. These fan internet fights are stupid. Schools have largely established their branding. Fans should accect it.

Officially:

Louisiana Ragin Cajuns
ULM Warhawks
GS Eagles
GSU Panthers

Each one of those schools has officially branded their athletics as such.

Acknowledge

...and move on.

In media guides we don't want to be confused with State or Grambling, at all. That is why it is our official position to go with Georgia Southern.

You will always be able to buy GSU stuff at the book store and the Georgia Southern fan/grad will will still use "GSU".
