How well do fans travel?
Just wondering how well other teams travel. Sorry if this is talked about already (if so just post a link please).
GSU and App were the only teams to actually travel in the SOCON. So the numbers you see for attendance are 99% home fans.

GSU can bring a good number, but distance and familiarity have a huge impact. I would say on average you can expect 500-1000 GSU fans to show up for a typical away game. Idaho, NMSU, and TxSt... maybe 100 at most.

04-cheers Can't wait to see some new places over the next few years.

Um, wrong. We travel well, especially in TX. We have had very few games outside of TX that people cared about (EWU, SUU, SELA, Nicholls, etc.) but I believe we did ok @Navy and a few other games this year. GaSo may have brought a good amount to that playoff game but how many fans are going to make plans (can afford) to come back to SM for a regular season game with the new footprint?
Had we made that NC in '05 it would have been 1/2 maroon & gold (including myself), I guarantee. We'll just have to see how it pans out, going forward.

We actually have fans/alum east of the Mississippi, so that helps.

I think he meant 100 GaSo folks would go to Texas St. I don't think he was inferring that Texas St. travels poorly.

I think he was saying we (Ga Southern) will only bring 100 fans at most to Idaho, NMSU, and TxSt.

Yes that was what I was saying. I can see us bringing 500-1000 fans to Troy or USA, but only about 100 to the western schools. We will bring a lot to GaSt., but that is just because of location.

man people are really sensitive on this board.

So again, how many fans should we expect to come to GaSo. What are you're averages to near or far schools.

I can see a couple thousand traveling to Statesboro, especially from the student and under 25 crowd who have friends who attend(ed) Southern. We took over 6k to Bama and about that many to Tennessee but only about 300 to 400 to Jax State. So depends on the opponent.

We will have the largest number go to UL. It'll be really low for the eastern schools and Idaho

That is impressive. Hope you do travel well and (even if it hurts to admit) have great time in the gnat capital. 04-cheers

Not even that far. I rented a place in Savannah for the weekend, did a day trip to Statesboro for the game last year and had a great time! Got there in about 45 minutes.

Wasn't being sensitve, just factual. That I misinterpreted his post doen't make me grumpy, just slightly tipsy.

The good news is that a large percentage of Georgia State fans travel to away games. The bad news is that it is a large percentage of a small fan base.

Like I said, depends on the opponent and distance. Alabama and Tennessee were monster away games for us. Also took a large contingent to UTSA (over 1000 I believe) and Houston. I think Mobile will continue to be a destination for us now that we're in the same conference and its becoming a rivalry. I imagine a larger than expected contingent to Texas State this year. Same for Louisiana once we play in Lafayette. The ultimate would have to be Georgia Tech some day. Little Brother comes home. Their are just too many familial associations between the schools and we're 1 mile apart for it not to be a huge game for both schools. I imagine that's why it has not been scheduled yet. We are the step brother they would rather not acknowledge right now given that UGA keeps beating them like a drum.

Glad to see you guys can bring fans like that. I think MT brought ~10k to UTK when we played there a few years ago. (Hey, pls go bring fans and beat them. pls.) In time your localized football following fanbase will grow and those games against GT that hopefully will come are gonna be so, so awesome.

That's how it works at Troy. Several thousand to Florida and Tennessee, but less than a thousand to UL a few years back when Troy went 8-0 in conference. I personally enjoy the conference games more than the money games, but as long as Troy is playing I will be there.

ASU could send a couple thousand to close by games...we'll send several thousand to Tiger High this year. We'll travel average 500-1000 to the Bama schools. I have no idea what to expect with the games at App and the Georgia Two Step.
