I've met two alums, both transient military. I also saw a truck in a hardware store parking lot with a "JMU Parent" bumper sticker. That's it. I have thought of organizing an alumni chapter here, but I don't know exactly how to go about it. Would the alumni office have a "by state" database and be able to provide contact info on those alums in Hawaii?

Yup. Hit up the Duke Club office by phone. They'll help you get started & share the info they have.

Hey, Bulldog, just open your home to all Dukes when they visit the Islands. Give, them a dog and pony show, a little purple Kool-Aid, and get yourself one of those credit card machines. When people are on vacation, they are much more likely to give. I'll contact the alumni office and let them know what you are doing and for them to be expecting some large coins. Thanks for getting so excited about this. You are the man...

The alumni office can provide you with all of the contact info, give aways, ideas, etc... I believe they even provide a little seed money for the chapter. The alumni office has traveled to the west coast to help form chapters. There would be lots of volunteers in the office but I'm not sure about the budget.
