BFS - Student Section
Can you imagine what the student section will be like when BFS gets the new stands on the student side and the fans are right on top of the opposing team?

I can imagine, but will the people who make the strategic decisions at JMU imagine?

I think our administration has to imagine FBS first and dare to dream a bit.

when the other side gets completed, JMU student section will no longer be by the visiting bench. They will put them up in the 400s. Respect Madison, remember? SMH

I laughed and then died a little on the inside realizing how true it was.

BFS - Student Section
Assuming we ever complete it, I thought I heard that the endzone sections will become the student sections.

The endzone is already a part of the student section but it can't fit all the students presently. They would need to add another tier to the endzone and then that would rock! I remember how good life was when we were watching BFS picture updates on the Zone.

At the pace our administration moves I'll have to be content with imagining it because I'll be long gone.

RE: BFS - Student Section
Our administration has certainly been fair game for criticism on certain issues, but I don't see how facilities development is one of those issues. I think it's generally accepted that JMU has some of the best sports facilities in the country, across the board, compared to other Div. 1/FCS level programs. That's one of the main reasons, in theory, we are attractive to the low level Div. 1/FBS conferences - right?

Having said that, the Convo situation doesn't inspire much confidence that we will do the right thing with regard to student seating once BFS is finished.

The Convo is the big caveat to that. It's a dump and inadequate. Hopefully that will be solved soon.

The Convo is a dump? Seriously? Do you travel at all to other schools on our level and see their basketball arenas? The entire facility accept the student section is chair back seating. The place is very clean. The bathrooms are up to date and look like new. We are getting a new floor. The outside is attractive and fits with the rest of campus. There is nothing that resembles a dump about the Convo.

The Convo is 30 years old. It doesn't have enough concessions and it takes awhile to exit if it is sold out. That is the only criticism I can make of the place.

If we're being candid, the seating layout is not good for basketball. Too many seats too far away from the court. The student section is nearly an atmosphere non-factor thanks to the absolutely stupid, horrendous decision to put choral risers on the floor. These are criticisms that should be included.

Certainly not a dump, just not a very good basketball layout. The footprint was not suppose to be a basketball arena. That happened after we did so well in the early '80's and Godwin couldn't cut it any longer.

And I didn't think it could be any worse than what the Zone had become. I was woefully wrong.

What started as an open ended, kinda fun, speculative OP quickly degenerated into more of the same. Oh well, what's the point? 03-yawn

The last home hoops game I attended was against Mason back in the 2010-11 season. The Convo had a good crowd, maybe 5300-5500 and it took forever to get out of the arena to the parking lot.

When I was in school and attending most every home game, I don't recall it taking so long to clear the place- and that was with larger crowds. Same goes with the Lefty era. The whole time I'm waiting in these non moving lines I'm thinking what a fire trap this place could be. Do they still have those back staircases or does nobody use them?

Still there, no one uses them. Its a constant struggle trying to help people understand there are easier ways to get in and out.

Example: Parkin P-lot, walk through the tunnel, use the E-Door (faces UREC, no one uses it), use back stairwells. Your experience will be much more painless.

For that particular game, I had 2nd row behind press row. Getting in was a breeze, but from down low my options were limited on leaving.

Also was the first basketball game at Madison for my girlfriend. She went to Bradley during the Hersey Hawkins years and was still impressed by how involved our crowd was. Sitting behind Dukester, she definitely experienced the frenzy!
