And if they're North/South divisions then there's still 3 in each.

Ranking the 25 teams most likely to have success over next three seasons

The #1 team was Alabama...here are where they ranked the ACC Schools plus Notre Dame:

Independent
#6. Notre Dame

ACC
#7. Florida State
#13. Clemson
#16. Louisville
#18. Miami
#20. Virginia Tech
#21. North Carolina

Inpressive, 6 ACC Schools in the Top 21...

I actually think FSU could be a spot higher, and Clemson a couple spots higher. The way they recruit without having a hell of a lot of success to point to? If they can have a true break-out year, they will be there to stay I think. Kids love that place when they go.

I would put Miami closer to 15.

I think Louisville is a bit optimistic, I think they are more in in the low 20s.

North Carolina makes sense, because they could break out any time, but it's still mostly based on faith right now.

I'd put it more like:

FSU - 6
Clemson - 10
Miami - 15
VT - 20
Louisville - 21
North Carolina - 25

I don't see UVA anywhere close to breaking in there. I would probably put GT about 30, but I don't see them going any higher or lower than about 30.

The only thing with Miami is their current NCAA situation...for Louisville as long as Charlie Strong is here anywhere from 16-20 is accurate...their rating from what they said is the confidence they have in the Louisville Coaching staff/recruiting/talent evaluation. I agree with their take on them.

Sorry, I wouldn't count ND toward the ACC. But nonetheless, impressive for the ACC based on what they've actually done.

I can't buy Stanford in the top 10. What they've done there is nothing short of amazing, but I have to believe that level of success is unsustainable. I'm not saying they are going to start sucking balls again, but I just don't see them as a perrenial top 10.

I think it's fair to count them as a tie-breaker, since they play 5 ACC teams per year - no other conference has such an arrangement for OOC games against a single team. In this case, he's ranked the conferences in the right order: SEC has 7 teams in all, ACC has 6+ND.

Yep, that's fine. I've been higher on Miami's potential than most. Even before all the improprieties about the investigation broke, I thought people would be surprised that the penalties would be lighter than what was being speculated. WITH the improprieties, I think the punishment will be manageable. Coming down too harshly is just going to put greater scrutiny on the NCAA. Considering how well Golden has managed to recruit with that hanging over his head, I like their upside more than a few.

And I think Louisville is a great program too. I just don't think they are going to walk into the ACC and be a top 15 team. I need to see how they recruit for a couple more years. Getting a lot out of talent is one thing, but I'm very skeptical of rating teams much higher than the level they recruit at, at least until they prove they can do it. I give VT a benefit of the doubt based on what they've done over the years, not ready to quite give Louisville that benefit of the doubt yet.

But Louisville also might see their recruiting vault to that level as well. They could be right there. The ACC needs them to be.

In complete agreement and very fair in your evaluation...we move into another level being in the same division as FSU & Clemson. And understand your wait and see on Louisville staff in regards to talent evaluation.

I never pay attention to preseason rankings.

Some years, ND is ranked high in preseason rankings and ends up 8-5.

Last year, they were unranked in the preseason and went 12-0.

This is just dartboard throwing by people to sell magazines and generate website hits.
