Ah, didn't read the article, just watched the interview with that Rutgers economist.

There are ton of fees that bcs schools give to the kids, they just dont label them as Football stadium fee, or baskeball stadium fee, they are innocuous names that no one challenges, that is how these schools roll.

Let's not ignore the fact that Rice charges the same fee. At least students don't have to pay anything further to attend games.
