Master List Of ACC In Last 5 Years OOC.
The ACC:
Here is the compilation of results in the ACC over the past 5 years, for their 12 members (regular season, prior to expansion, including Maryland, excluding Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame (and Louisville))(note that majors are the 5 other power hoops conferences; midmajors are the multiple-bid conferences-- the A-10, West Coast, Missouri Valley, Mountain West, plus Memphis, Butler, VCU and George Mason):

ACC vs majors: 117-110 (.515 winning pct).
ACC vs midmajors: 67-42 (.615 winning pct).
ACC vs lower conference teams: 413-44 (.904 winning pct).

ACC vs majors, last 5 years:
Ga Tech 5-12.
Wake 5-6.
Virginia 10-10.
Boston College 14-5.
Clemson 6-8.
NC State 6-15.
Virginia Tech 12-9.
Miami (Fla) 7-7.
Maryland 7-10.
Duke 22-5.
Florida State 8-13.
North Carolina 15-10.
TOTAL: 117-110 (.515 winning pct) <---lower than Big East.

a reminder:
BIG EAST vs majors, last 5 years
Providence 4-8.
Marquette 10-10.
Georgetown 9-5.
Seton Hall 6-6.
DePaul 4-10.
Creighton 9-5.
Villanova 6-4.
St John's 6-11.
Xavier 18-11.
Butler 14-9.
TOTAL 86-79 (.521 winning pct) <---higher than ACC last 5 years.

Just messing around with some numbers in the past 5 years:
If Duke (which is 22-5 vs majors and 14-1 vs midmajors) is removed from the totals:
- ACC not counting Duke vs majors: 95-105 (.475 winning pct).
- ACC not counting Duke vs midmajors: 53-41 (.564 winning pct).
- The .475 winning pct (after removing 1 team, Duke) vs majors over a 5 year range is very low for a conference that claims to be elite.
- Only 4 of the ACC's 12 schools were over .500 vs majors (BC, Va Tech, UNC, Duke).
- Only 2 of the ACC's 12 schools have made the Elite-8 in the past 9 years (UNC, Duke).
- Is this a conference that has become a 2 team group with a bunch of run-of-the-mill teams?

Do the Big East numbers compare favorably? I'd definitely say yes.

Looking at next year, adding 3 Big East schools provides a good boost:
- Syracuse has been completely amazing in the last 5 years-- an incredible 15-0 vs majors.
- Pitt is 7-4 vs majors.
- Notre Dame is 8-9 vs majors.
- Removing Maryland, adding Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame along with Duke and the 10 others puts the ACC at:
- ACC vs majors using 2014 schools: 140-113 (.553 winning pct).
- ACC vs midmajors using 2014 schools: 88-43 (.672 winning pct).
- ACC vs lowers using 2014 schools: 519-44 (.922 winning pct).

Big East defectors vs majors:
Syracuse 15-0.
Pitt 7-4.
Notre Dame 8-9.

School breakdown follows below:

Any thoughts or comments?
