Leeser the new mayor
I hope this means the city continues to move forward, and UTEP/sport venues are supported.

I think most of us saw this coming.

I'm fine with it, as long as he keeps everything moving forward. 14% turnout is pretty sad though.

The money is there. The bond passed so the money needs to be spent.

As long as everything is on the up and up, there shouldn't be a problem.

RE: Leeser the new mayor
Two years ago I was hoping that Leeser would run. Yesterday I voted for Ortega. I am very concerned we are going to go back to the 80's and 90's form of government and not move forward. I hope my initial opinion was right and that Leeser will do a good job.

Lesser is like everyone else in El Paso in that they want to see the city move forward.

The question is how should the city move forward.

Those of us who were in favor of how the former city council was running things do not have a monopoly on progress. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

More public involvement is needed to regain trust in local government and the progress needs to be felt throughout the city and not simply concentrated on an area of the city that most people do not frequent at night.

If we leave progress up to people like you, fit, we'll end up with another Ascarate pool.

RE: Leeser the new mayor
There is good and bad progress.

Sure, we can buy up all we want and call it good progress because we have all kinds of good stuff but if it creates debt for years to come, it isn't a wise investment.

Good progress is investment in the future that isn't going to bankrupt the next generations.

You liberals are all the same.

The problem I have with the tax is that they said it wasn't going to cost the taxpayers money. We then found out that this was false.

The increase in taxes is for the passed props. The actual stadium is not going to be paid by property taxes. Thanks for keeping score.

RE: Leeser the new mayor
Interesting quote from a KFOX article explaining the props.

The third proposition is the hotel occupancy tax rate, and it is set to make extra money, if all goes to plan -- about $24 million.

In the past, you said were against the props and any increase in property taxes. He called you out on that. You then replied referencing the stadium. As I explained, the increase in property taxes is for the props and not the stadium.

See here is where you guys have it wrong. Just because I disagree with what the city or UTEP is doing doesn't mean I'm actually blowing a gasket over it.

If you recall, even though I thought UTEP was making a mistake with their season ticket prices, I still bought season tickets.

Even though I don't think Floyd is the right fit for basketball, i still went to a few games.

Unlike you guys, I don't take this stuff personal.

I thought you were going to make your daughter and wife vote no, I must have imagined that

No randaddy, you are wrong again. Fit can read our minds and tell us how we feel but we can't remember what he posts or states.

You are the one who claimed that you knew what Susie Byrd meant when she said that the stadium construction cost would be 50 million.
