Football season predictions
Seeing our schedule, I would think we would be bowling this year. It may be tough because we have a rookie head coach, but the last couple times we've hired a new coach, they've gone to a bowl game in their first year. With that said, I think we have 9 maybe 10 winnable games...

Games we should win.

NMSU
UNM
FIU
UNT
UTSA
Tulane
CSU

Games we could win.

LT
Rice
MTSU

Games where we'll compete in

Tulsa

Games I'll be happy if we compete in

A&M

Prediction:

Dream season 10-2
Realistically 7-5
Bad season 5-7 and no bowl

I'll take a 6-6 regular season, with a bowl win over an 8-4 season and a bowl loss.

Looks like a 5-7 as a worst case scenarion, and 6-6 with wins over UNM, FIU, UTSA, Tulane, UNT, and NMSU.

My only gripe would be a win over La Tech. I don't see that happening.

They lost almost all their entire starting OL, all starting LB's, and their QB

So what will you say if they don't have a winning season? Sounds like you have real high expectations.

I'll be happy with .500 from this team.

7-5 isn't that high of expectations considering our schedule.

Seven and Five isn't high expectations considering our schedule?

Dang. I guess you are going to be calling for Kugler's head after year one.

They'll be lucky to go Five hundred.

Considering your stance on Floyd, I'd expect you to be calling for Kugler's head if he went .500

On the contrary, I like the Kugler hire. As a matter of fact, I said that they should hire him even before he was on the short list.

I have always believed that UTEP should hire up and coming coaches rather than coaches in the twilight of their career.

Floyd will go the way of Mike Price. He will have a couple of good seasons and then he will either move on or be mediocre at best.

I wasn't asking for your opinion on the hire, nor was I trying to insinuate if you liked him or not... I was simply pointing out your double standard. I'm guessing you have no clue when it comes to basketball, but your disdain for Floyd has made you blind as a bat and seeing as you're a sack 12 fan, I can only imagine why.

RE: Football season predictions
What do you mean by double standard? I feel the same way about both UTEP sports.

We should be hiring up and coming coaches rather than old and tired with baggage coaches.

I have always believed that and will always believe that.

if you can't see the fact that you're willing to give kugler a pass if he fails this next season, but you dog floyd every chance you get, then I can't help you with your double standard.

For the record, I can see us going 7-5, but if we don't, I can understand why

The reason I am giving Kugler a pass is because he is in his first year.

Floyd has already been coaching the Miners for three years and still no championships or NCAA tournament.

You are the one with the double standard.

You want Kugler to succeed in year one but give Floyd three or four years.

Let me ask you this. If Floyd doesn't go to the big dance next year, will you finally see things my way? I doubt it.

How do you figure Floyd coaching three years and his first class being only sophmores?

Wouldn't his first full year's recruits have been in high school? Two years later, they would be sophmores. Key word: FULL

RIght. So they were only sophmores during the last season. I hear a Fitbud debate coming.

RE: Football season predictions
This is where we can split hairs and cling to randomness to make a point.

Coach Floyd's first actual recruiting class will be juniors this upcoming season. Julian and company.

His first full recruiting class will be sophomores this upcoming season. A bit of a bust with Chris and Twymond transferring.

All the better in the long run I suppose/hope.

I agree. Floyd's first recruiting class are juniors this year.

So are you suggesting that we still give Floyd another two years?

In my opinion? You can search every one of my posts on here, Digs, and the Den. I have always said it was about the 2014-15 season. Always. Sure, I want success. Sure, I want it now. But my goals and expectations are about the 2014-15 season. You can disagree. That is fine. This is my opinion.

What if the Miners choke in 2014-15? I will renew my season tickets like I always do and continue to be a supportive fan. I am a fan first and a stake holder second. In the long run, I think our best bet is to have Coach Floyd as our head coach as long as we can.
