I think it's a good name for a bowl, or at least better than some already out there. Hopefully they'd be able to keep the name as the Rice Bowl if the sponsor changes.

Anyway, it's better than "Congratulations (Insert School) you've been invited to Detroit!!!"

I can't see the Univ of Arkansas gods allowing ANYBODY else in their state --especially ASU-- to gain too much ground. So, I'm very surprised to hear this "Rice" bowl game gain a foothold in Little Rock without the UA controlling it. Make no mistake, UA doesn't want --and will not accept-- any "quality" competitors in their state. As a result, I don't think we've heard the last of this "Rice" Bowl yet. Expect changes.

War Memorial Stadium and UA have had issues. UA does not want play there...Little Rock insists.

UA ultimately play one or zero games in Little Rock. War Memorial has to diversify or dry up.

That sounds like opportunity knocking for ASU. You (ASU) guys should try to schedule 2 games a year in LR for the next 5 years or so, and see if you can gain some foothold there. This is a great opportunity for ASU to turn casual Little Rock fans into ASU fans. And once you start picking up some fans in LR, you'll get the LR media on your side as well. This will FORCE UAF to either start playing games in LR again, or cede the state's largest city to ASU.

Hopefully you guys have an AD and school prez smart enough to figure this stuff out.

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. ASU is not and never will be a major factor in Little Rock or anywhere outside of Jonesboro. I travel all over the state and ASU is a complete non-factor. UA wants to stop playing in LR because their stadium is bigger than War Memorial (which is not all that great) and they lose money playing in LR. ASU playing teams like Ga State and Appy St in LR will not magically change that.

Your information is so old, it looks like a reply from the year 2003. 03-lmfao

Take a deep breath. Everybody knows War Memorial is a much smaller venue than UAF's home stadium. Everybody also knows that's why UAF can't afford to play too many (if any) games there (at WAR Memorial). That's very old news. In fact, I'll bet your grand parents probably know this too. 07-coffee3

But with a new Bowl game (allegedly) coming to Little Rock --and the fact that even YOU agree that UAF ain't coming back to Little Rock-- this clearly represents an opportunity for ASU to grab some locals who may feel ignored by UAF.
THe only thing that UAF has to do with anything is whether they decide to pull out of LR completely. It isn't about ASU competing with UAF for fans or infringing on their territory but simply growing the ASU fanbase.

I work in LR and I know others can attest to the fact that you see ASU all over LR these days. 6 years ago I could go a week without seeing another ASU fan on the road or street and now I can't go a day without seeing several.

Crump1, I can attest to that fact. I spotted a bulletin board the other day on my way to Sherwood. It seems that the ASU fans have started to show up everywhere. I see more and more support from local alumni on facebook as well.

I think it will also be helpful that Little Rock is a centralized location. There might be alumni in south Arkansas and other parts of the state and Little Rock is just closer than Jonesboro. (just my 2 cents...)

With Detroit saying last week that they are going to have to default on their $2.5 Billion dollar debt, would think going to the Rice Bowl in Arkansas might be a safer bet to attend.

You are right. There are thousands of alums in central AR and a lot more in south AR like you say. It is night and day from just 5 or 6 years ago. The mascot change helped but winning, of course, is largely responsible. If we can put 10K in Mobile on a Sunday night then there is no questions that we would bring our usual home crowd and then some for a bowl.

I know we are working with the MAC and that is fine but CUSA versus SBC gives the bowl a ton of teams within driving distance and the potential for a huge crowd.

Last I checked...Univ of Arkansas is in the SEC...I don't think they will worry too much if the Sunbelt/CUSA/MAC decide to host a bowl game in their state.

They worry about every frickin' thing to absolute excess.
