I'm a Wii fan since I'm not a serious gamer. I like the downloadable games and recently I've spent more time playing super mario bros. than anything else. Wii sports is fun after a few drinks with friends, and its more kid friendly than the rest.

I'd disagree. My 5 year old son is great with the kinect games, and they are more friendly as they don't have to hold a controller to play. That being said, I think all the systems are fun and it is up to the person to get the full enjoyment out of the system.

I'm buying one the day they come out. I've posted enough stuff on here to be on a watch list anyway. Oh, and I use cash.

Supposedly, Verizon Fios can detect not just how many people are in the room, but what they are doing (eating, excercising, making whoopee 02-13-banana, etc.).

If they get it down to detecting liberal or conservative the IRS would buy them up.

If you're already invested in a lot of Xbox 360 games, just don't throw out your Xbox 360. Microsoft has already said one single paid Xbox Live account will cover both an Xbox 360 and an Xbox One in the same household

360 was backwards compatible

No it wasn't. Microsoft and some game companies translated some of the really popular games and you could download a "compatability pack" which was basically a 360 version of the original xbox game. You can't just put any original xbox game into a 360 and it work.

Not true I'm pretty sure I can play my Halo 2 and KoTOR copies on my 360 without any downloads. I insert the disk and it plays.

I'm trying to recall how it was. If I've jogged my memory correctly, only Greatest Hits were backwards compatible.

I'd disagree but it really doesn't matter, does it? There are so many anti-Microsoft people that they'll attack them until the day they die.

I'm not saying they are perfect by any means, but Sony has been probably the most restricting, awful, dishonest technology company ever. Remember when they were putting root kits on their CD's? Remember all the leaks from the PSN due to pure laziness of not patching their servers?

Nintendo has had all kinds of issues over the years with their cartridges. They lack the online abilities put in place by Microsoft and Sony. They fully admit they aren't even going after the true gaming audience.

At the end of the day Microsoft will have plenty of haters just because of who they are. It won't be due to their mistakes but because of their name. It is what it is...

You CANNOT be serious?!?

Do you have any idea of the DRM put in the Xbone? You will NEVER own any of the games you buy, its merely a license to play to the game indefinitely. No used games, no lending or borrowing games. They want to take away complete ownership of the games. Add to the fact you have Kinect always on always listening (sound familiar?). Sony is offering complete ownership of the games you buy and no ridiculous DRM, and its a 100 dollars cheaper with more superior hardware than the Xbone. Tell me WHY anyone should buy an Xbone? M$ is an absolute disgrace. They have no respect for the consumer.

Look, I'm not huge fan of the DRM and the used game issues brought up here and everywhere else. To be completely honest, I have a pretty good feeling that Microsoft will give in to public pressure over this and do away with that policy.

That being said, Sony has been well known to do many of these same things. Sony was guilty of issues with the PII (personally identifiable information) they leaked thanks to their completely crap design of PSN and the rootkits they put on CD's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_co..._scandal), which are 2 of the most eggregious violations ever known in the IT security/privacy world!

As far as hardware goes, neither manufacturer ever actually maxed out the hardware in the current generation. While Sony's hardware may be "better," it is not lightyears ahead and since both are running on intel processors you will probably see all the developers develop towards the MS hardware. That way they know they'll have little to no issues when porting it over to the PS4 and PC (yes, these new generations of games will be a big shot in the arm for PC gaming since both companies are going back to the intel platform).

As far as differentiators, the xbox will almost surely be a more robust "entertainment" system that will essentially merge itself with your cable/satellite TV box, your netflix or amazon prime online videos, PPV, and other options. I chose the XB360 because of the media center capabilities. I have xb360's on all of my TVs, a media center PC I got for cheap on woot ($300), and 2 HD Home Run Network Tuners (allowing for up to 6 concurrent recordings/streams simultaneously). My cable TV bill is only $45 after all fees... half of what it was for the same package with a DVR and STBs. I paid within a year for the hardware through savings and now I have essentially unlimited storage space for DVR'd shows and digitized media (movies, music, and pictures). The XBox 1 will continue on that entertainment path, and probably by the time I'm ready to buy it will be the same price point as the PS4.

I certainly understand your concern about the kinect, but I have a pretty good feeling I can place the thing towards the wall and something over the microphone to keep MS from "listening" in, assuming they actually do that.

All that being said, I don't think a consumer can go wrong with either direction.

So what's it like to work for Microsoft?

That's really the only explanation on why you're so hyped about the XBONE over the PS4.

LOL, no, I do not work for them. I do, however, work in the software development field (although I'm on the network side of things). As I said earlier, the XB1 will be the better overall "entertainment" device, IMO. I think the better "gaming" will be on the PS4 due to the used game situation. I still think that kinect outclasses anything that Sony or Nintendo does in terms of the future capabilities of gaming.

RE: Xbox one, most intrusive electronic ever?
I think back to when the 360 and PS3 were both announced, and how everyone said the PS3 was so much better hardware wise that they'd win the console war. XB360 wasn't as good for graphics (1080i/720p vs 1080p), they charged for online gaming (psn is now going to force people to pay as well), and the hardware issues that MS had at the launch meant it was doomed. Lack of a bluray drive for the XB360. Instead it sold about the same number of consoles (granted, the xb360 was out for a year more than the PS3) and outsold, by far, the number of video games.

What will happen this time? Who knows. I suspect they will be close in terms of total consoles sold and games sold and that both will continue to pull people from Nintendo's market share.
