I took his hip-hop and religion course that he co-taught with Dr. Anthony Pinn, and it was one of the better courses I took at Rice.

Not only was the material interesting and thought provoking (especially due to Pinn's take on what religion is in a more abstract sense), but Professor B proved to be a fine teacher who spoke quite eloquently and knowledgeably.

Also, the fact that Bun B was able to bring in guest speakers like Chamillionaire, Slim Thug and local legend Z-Ro.

I was curious as to what his faculty appointment is (e.g. "lecturer", "adjunct", whatever) and I discovered something odd: neither "Bun B" nor "Bernard Freeman" (nor any variation of either) is listed in the Rice faculty/staff/student directory. But Rice certainly seems to advertise that he is on the faculty.

It may be that Professor Pinn just invites him in without an official appointment.

It could be that he isn't teaching the class this year? The way that website reads, it seems like he was only a lecturer in 2011.
