Well, for what it's worth, I grew up in a suburb of Washington DC at a time when the Redskins were the be-all of big time athletics in the area. Still, there was lots of TV interest in national college football. If Notre Dame came to Annapolis or Philly to play Navy, that was front- sports page news in the Baltimore and DC papers.
