I was thinking the same thing!

We are always so snooty about our academic superiority and we are at the bottom in basketball and football! We are ahead of Hampton, though!

Completely agree. Our admin has their heads so far up their asses it's not even funny. How can we claim that the SB is a bad academic fit when our two flagship sports are bottom feeders when it comes to APR scores?!

Here's football:

UNH - 977
Maine - 971
Richmond - 970
W&M - 969
Albany - 962
Villanova - 961
Stony Brook - 960
UD - 959
Towson - 952
URI - 948
JMU - 939

Since one of the concerns I hear from our admin is "being able to compete right away" in a new conference, when the **** are we going to start competing academically within our own conference.

Way to use academics as an excuse, ass clowns.

Well WKU is no longer in SB starting next season but incoming Appy and GSU are pretty solid academically... This league looks completely like a league of academic AND athletic peers. Pull the trigger!

As far as football goes, you can either hang your hat on your team having good grades (but lousy football) or good football (but lousy grades). You don't want to be in that 3rd area that has neither!

I hope some of the guys who quit the team were more on the "academically challenged" end of the spectrum, replaced by newer guys who can boost our academic numbers.

Pretty sure "academic fit" means as an institution, not where our athletics program fits in. Right or wrong.

Don't disagree, Dunk, but it's just a cop-out IMO.

I wouldn't be too quick to look at App State here. There basketball team just got a 2014-2015 post season ban for their APR (920).
Link: App State APR violation

That being said, I agree with Dunk, that I don't think APR (which changes so much from year to year) should be the primary way to assess "academic quality"

According to the apr wiki page, it says 925 is the score you must meet to avoid a penalty. Why is everyone saying 930?

Edit: 925 in a single season or 930 four year average.

RE: New APR data
It is 940 average over a two year period, 930 average over a 4 year period, and 925 for a one year period.

How did your school do among this year's APR scores in (FBS) football?

Hmmm...Alabama at 975 is above Vandy. Calipari and Saban must have gone to the same numbers manipulation seminar. And it's funny that UNC is dead last in the ACC, even with their bogus no show classes.

RE: New APR data
The four year average is going to 940 either next year or the year after. Scary. Going to be more and more teams not eligible.

Does cheating increase with the increase in the four year average? I say it will.

Does Brady really care if he leaves JMU with a pile of sh$t?

In may in fact be ideal for him.

RE: New APR data
Are schools limited by the amount of special academic resources that they can provide to athletes? I have to think that schools like Alabama must have an army of academic assistants to help the athletes and keep them on task.

Didn't JMU lose to W&M twice this year? Academics really make it difficult to win. Right?
