BYU probably has a pretty high drop out and transfer rate, both of which drop your APR score. It's tough for a college kid to be celibate (or to get married as an alternative), not drink, smoke or have caffeine, have restricted same-sex visiting hours, a curfew, or whatever it is they have to deal with. I didn't feel like checking wikipedia, but the Mormon lifestyle is required there, and it's a whole other world.

Caffeine is widely debated in the Mormon community, as highlighted in Mitt Romney's Diet Coke anecdote. But I think I remember someone telling me BYU was conservative on the issue, and thus provided no caffeinated soda, coffee, tea or chocolate on campus. Again, I don't feel like fact-checking this, but you get the general idea.

Isn't there a two year mission trip also required?

It is my understanding that transfers don't hurt a school's APR unless the departing athlete is not "in good academic standing" when he leaves. This is why UAB got hammered in the first year of Callaway's tenure - many who left (transferred or were "fired") were not good students when they left.

The 2 year mission is a Mormon Church requirement not tied to BYU specifically. ALL Mormon males are supposed to serve that 2 year mission somewhere remote from their home. UAB once signed a high school QB who was supposed to come to campus after his mission, but I don't think he ever did come to UAB, at least not for FB.

RE: Champlin: APR News
Surely the APR has some sort of exemption for BYU, sine I think one component is they have to graduate in so many years. It would be difficult for a BYU student of the Mormon faith to meet that requirement and still serve two years in the mission field.

So in bowling, if you receive APR sanctions, does that mean you can't bowl that extra ball in the tenth frame.

& you have to wear the clown shoes & use the beat up balls once used at the Super Bowl in Bessemer.
